The Red Bull KTM Ajo riders participated in their final test of the calendar year on Monday and Tuesday, riding at the Almeria circuit in southern Spain. Jack Miller, Danny Kent and Karel Hanika were able to keep gaining kilometres of experience ahead of next season and continued the line of work initiated last week in Jerez.

The three young riders had different tasks to undertake over the two days of testing at Almeria. Danny Kent worked both days with the Red Bull KTM Ajo technicians and further adapted his riding style to Moto3. This afternoon, the group were joined by Jack Miller, who spent much of the test with the KTM factory technicians trying different parts and Moto3 settings for next season. Meanwhile, the team’s rookie and reigning Red Bull Rookies Cup champion, Karel Hanika, was used as a test rider for the bike developed by KTM for next season’s edition of the competition.

This second test again featured fine weather in southern Spain, and the three Red Bull KTM Ajo riders put in their final laps of 2013. Due to World Championship testing restrictions, the trip will not be back onboard their bikes until February —when they will participate in their first runouts of the 2014 preseason.

Jack Miller,
“Yesterday I did a lot of laps with KTM, testing a completely new bike to that which I rode in Jerez. Therefore I started again and kept trying different setups, from which we have drawn some very good conclusions. Today we continued to work hard and at the end of the day I rode the same bike as last week to put in more kilometres. I’m very happy with how the first week with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team has gone. I think we’re on the right track. We’re only four days into testing and we have time to improve and focus on different aspects.”

Danny Kent,
“These two days of testing in Almeria have not been at all bad. The truth is that in the early stages we struggled a bit, because it’s a tricky circuit and quite difficult to learn. However, the final conclusions from these two days are very good. My team and I worked hard and we found the right direction to take, and I feel more comfortable. The lap times were not the most important thing, because it was a time to try all kinds of setups. As I said in Jerez, I think that now I have to adapt my riding style to this new KTM bike, particularly when cornering. Every day I feel better on the bike and more recovered from my injury. I believe we have taken another step forward.”

Aki Ajo,
“With these two days in Almeria, we’ve finished off our testing with the new Red Bull KTM Ajo riders before the winter break. These two days have been useful for continuing the work that we started in Jerez. I’m very happy with how testing has gone this week . This test in Almeria has been a little different because Danny Kent has worked alone with us, while Jack Miller has spent most of the time with KTM and Karel Hanika tested the bike for the Red Bull Rookies Cup. These two days have been very helpful and we were able to assess new parts for KTM Moto3 bikes. The future is sure to be very interesting. We are very satisfied.”
