Ajo Motorsport rider betters times from Friday and completes second night of test in sixth.

The penultimate night of Moto2 preseason testing took place on Saturday at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. After setting the fifth fastest time on Friday, reigning Moto2 World Champion Johann Zarco completed a total of 43 laps of the circuit on the second night, improving his time to set a best lap of 2:00.296. The Frenchman was sixth quickest on the combined timesheet as a result.

Zarco was one of several riders to decide against participating in the opening session of the evening, owing to the high track temperatures of over 40ºC.

In the second session, with almost the entire intermediate class in action, he clocked a lap almost identical to his best from Friday -2:00.546- and placed sixth. After acknowledging yesterday that he wanted to improve his best time, even though he was happy with his pace, the Ajo Motorsport rider worked tirelessly and set a top lap of 2:00.296 as the chequered flag fell. That put him sixth overall on the second night of riding at Losail.

The final night of action takes place on Sunday, marking the end of both the Qatar Official Test and the 2016 preseason.

“This second day in Qatar did not go as well as expected, because I wasn’t able to improve my lap time by as much as I had hoped. It seems that I have yet to find enough confidence with the new chassis to play around with the bike and push with fresh tyres. Like yesterday, we are fine with used tyres, so that is positive.  I am calm and happy, because the times are so tight in the top positions. I am 100% convinced that we will use tomorrow to continue getting better.”
