Ajo Academy rider finishes just off the podium and takes his best result in the RFME Spanish Championship.

Ajo Academy rider Barry Baltus placed fourth in the PreMoto3 race for the RFME Spanish Championship this weekend at Alcarras. The result is the Belgian’s best of the season so far, as he continues to develop and earn onboard his BeOn bike.

Baltus had been in good form on Saturday, finishing second of the two qualifying sessions that decided the grid for Round 3. In the first, he was one of only two riders to go round in under 1:42, setting a 1:41.924 best lap. In the second session the times were slower, although the young Belgian repeated his second place with a time of 1:42.025.

Starting from the front row of the grid, Baltus was part of a four-rider group battling for victory. After five laps the pack was split, and he found himself riding alone in fourth. He remained there until the end of the race, adding 13 points to his tally. He now lies sixth overall, with 37 points.

The PreMoto3 class are back in action next weekend at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, contesting their fourth round on June 25th.

“I have felt very good all weekend in Alcarras. I was able to take steps forward in each practice session, my feeling with the bike has improved a lot since Jerez and I’m happy with how the team worked. In the race I tried to catch the leading group, but they were riding at a much faster pace than I had expected. Overall, it has been a positive weekend, I am very satisfied with the result and I look forward to the next round in Barcelona.”
