Red Bull KTM Ajo riders complete two positive days of testing at new Austrian circuit.

The three week summer break for the Moto3 World Championship was interrupted for Brad Binder and Bo Bendsneyder this Tuesday and Wednesday, with a two-day test at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. The Red Bull KTM Ajo riders were able to ride at the track for the first time, ahead of its debut on the Grand Prix calendar on August 12th-14th.

The two intensive days offered the Red Bull KTM Ajo riders the chance to get the measure of the new, fast circuit. The Red Bull RIng is 4.3km long, with 9 corners –2 left handers and 7 right handers. Good weather allowed for Binder to put in a total of 190 laps, whilst Bendsneyder did 172. Both were able to work on a base setup for the Austrian GP, before rain at midday obliged them to cut the test slightly short.

The pair will be back on their KTM bikes at the Red Bull Ring for the first race back from the summer break, fresh and with knowledge of the track’s characteristics.

“These last two days have gone really well and I have enjoyed myself right from the first time out on track. The circuit is not particularly technical as it only has 9 corners, but what really matters here is that you push hard and make the most of each sector. It is possible to go fast at a particular point on the circuit but very difficult to do so throughout an entire lap. We have found some settings for the bike that have worked, I feel comfortable and our pace was really good.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the team for the spectacular work they have done. Around 80% of the things we have tried have been positive, and that is not at all common at a test. We are ready for the race weekend.”

64 BO BENDSNEYDER

“The Red Bull Ring is a nice circuit; it has a long straight, fast and tight corners. It is a different layout to the other tracks. We’ve had two good days of testing. The first day we were familiarising ourselves with the track and working on the bike to find a good setup. On the second day we were able to improve a lot and at end of the day we set a good fast lap. I’m happy with these two days of testing and looking forward to the GP.”
