Barry Baltus takes third consecutive podium

25/06/2017

Third position for Ajo Academy rider at the Navarra Circuit, with Adrian Fernandez 9th and Lorenzo Fellon 21st -after suffering a crash with two laps remaining.

The Ajo Academy had another positive weekend at the fourth round of the PreMoto3 RFME Spanish Championship. Barry Baltus took a podium finish –his fourth of a possible five– with a third position at the Navarra Circuit. Adrian Fernandez was 9th and Lorenzo Fellon 21st, both completing the race and gaining valuable experience on their BeOn bikes.
Barry Baltus, starting from the front row, fought in the second group competing for third, along with five other riders. Despite not being able to battle for the victory, the Belgian claimed his third consecutive podium -and the fourth in total for the season.

Adrian Fernandez started from 10th place, and was involved in a duel with another rider to finish in the Top 10.He finally did that, placing ninth. The result is a good one for the Spaniard, who had suffered a crash in Thursday’s FP1 that caused him pain in his hip and deprived him of track time on Friday. He had entered Saturday qualifying with little time on track.

Fortune was not on Lorenzo Fellon’s side. After starting fifth, the Frenchman remained in the fight for the Top 5 until the final stretch of the race, before two laps from the end he crashed at Turn 2, losing the front. In spite of the crash, he demonstrated his fighting spirit by picking the bike back up and crossing the finish line in 21st.

After four races, Barry Baltus is second overall in the PreMoto3 class with 81 points -19 behind the leader. Fernandez and Fellon are ninth -31 points- and twelfth -19 points-, respectively. The next race will be held at MotorLand Aragon on July 16th.

7 – BARRY BALTUS
“I’m happy with how the entire weekend has gone, although the feeling after the race is bittersweet because we expected something more than this. We have always been among the fastest riders, both in practice and in qualifying, and I would have liked to have fought for the victory today. It just wasn’t to be. We can take away everything we have learned and we will give our all at the next round.”

30 – LORENZO FELLON
“It’s a shame to have crashed two laps from the end, because we were fighting for the Top 5 and we had been very strong during the four days. Finishing the race well was the finishing touch we lacked to complete a great weekend, but I can at least take away everything we have learned. Now I can’t wait to go to Aragon and fight to keep taking steps forward.”

31 – ADRIAN FERNANDEZ
“It’s been a tough weekend. On Thursday I suffered a highside in the first free practice. I fell and did a lot of damage to my hip. Luckily, after resting on Friday I was able to complete qualifying and the race, although I noticed the lack of track time compared to the other riders. In the race I felt very good with the bike and I was able to set a good pace despite the discomfort, so I leave Navarra happy with this Top 10 finish and with all the work we have done.”
