Oliveira and Binder prepare for final sprint with Valencia test

Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 riders complete satisfactory two-day test at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, where the last round of the Moto2 season will be held.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo duo of Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder have had a busy schedule over the past four weeks, taking in the British GP, a test at Aragon, the San Marino GP and now a test in Valencia. The pair were at the Ricardo Tormo circuit on the outskirts of the Spanish city for their latest test, which was held on Thursday and Friday. Besides preparing them for the season finale, which will be held at the track, it was also a chance for them to get ready for the next Moto2 World Championship round, set for next week in Aragon.

The track temperatures reached a 52ºC maximum yesterday and 40ºC today, allowing both Oliveira and Binder to enjoy two full days of testing in which each put in around 150 laps overall. The Portuguese, second in the Moto2 World Championship standings, focused his work on the rear of his bike, seeking optimal grip in order to achieve the best race pace. With the same objective in mind, the South African, who entered the Top 3 in the standings after the San Marino GP, tested both front and rear suspension setups.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team lead the way in the team standings, and will be back in action from next Friday at the start of the Aragon GP.

AKI AJO – Team Manager

“This couple of days in Valencia has seen some very hard work, because we have been able to try out a lot of things. It is very important to be able to do these tests this month before starting the final part of the season. We are very grateful for the great work that KTM and WP have done over the last few weeks to be able to offer us so much help in the form of new parts, materials and ideas. The test schedule that we have this month allows us to test things out and confirm results at different circuits, beyond the Grand Prix weekend, where we have already shown a remarkable improvement -especially in practice. The weather in Valencia was favourable and we were able to confirm improvements to the front fork and rear suspension setups. The whole team are excited for the last part of the season, which starts next week in Aragon. I think both Miguel [Oliveira] and Brad [Binder] are very satisfied with this week’s work, so we just need to show it at the GPs.”

“We’ve had another two positive days of testing here. These two days in Valencia have allowed us to confirm and put into practice ideas we had when we left the Aragon test two weeks ago. It has been very good to be able to ride so many laps here to work on the suspension and rear shock, in search of more grip that will allow us to improve our pace in the race. The conclusions have been very positive and it has also been very hot, an aspect that could help us next week in Aragon, where the conditions are often similar. We did many laps with the tyres so I hope to be able to demonstrate this work next week at the GP. We are looking forward to the final rounds of the season.”

41 BRAD BINDER

“We end these two days of testing in Valencia very satisfied and with a very positive feeling about things. Both yesterday and today we focused on working on our race pace and on being consistent. We can say that we have taken a step forward. The overall feeling is very positive and I think the setups we take away from here can help us both for next week and for the rest of the remaining GPs. Having so many tests in the last weeks has meant we can confirm our setups at different tracks, so I want to show how effective this has been on a race weekend.”
