Can Öncü completes productive day of testing at Jerez

07/05/2019

The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider goes faster than his race time in sunny conditions at the Andalusian track.

Two days on from the Red Bull Grand Prix of Spain, Can Öncü was back at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit for a fruitful test. On a day in which there were high temperatures on track, the young Turkish rider went round in under his best time from Sunday’s race, breaking the 1:46 barrier.

Can Öncü pushed to the fullest in the three sessions for the lower cylinder class. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider used the day to test new parts for the front end of his bike, which worked very positively for him. The 15-year-old continued gaining experience, although he would suffer a setback with a small crash from which he escaped unharmed. Even with track temperatures rising above 50ºC, he put in a consistent pace and left Jerez with a good feeling.

The next time Can Öncü will be back onboard his Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 bike will be from 17th to 19th May, at the French Grand Prix at the historic Le Mans circuit.

“Today was a very positive day. This test has helped us to improve in general but, above all, it’s great that we lowered our lap times a lot and were able to be consistent. I’m very happy, since the weekend did not go quite as we had hoped. Fortunately we were able to test afterwards, which allows us to leave Jerez feeling good. Next week we will be at Le Mans and I hope to put into practice everything we have learned here, to challenge for good results.”
