Can Öncü heads to Italy for sixth round of the season

The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider is looking forward to the Italian Grand Prix, after a positive two-day test in Barcelona.

As the World Championship continues on its international journey, Italy awaits the riders this coming weekend, at the sixth Grand Prix of the 2019 season. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team and Can Öncü travel to Mugello, following a positive test at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit. During the two days of track action, the young Turkish rider continued working on the configuration of the bike, with an eye on the weekend ahead and the subsequent return to the venue just two weeks later.

Last time out in France, Can Öncü produced a solid performance, finishing 16th in a tricky crash-strewn race. Next up is Mugello, a track which the Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie likes and where he achieved a second-place finish in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup contest last year. His goal for the Italian Grand Prix is to continue taking steps forward, as well as to improve his confidence and feeling with the bike.

The 20-lap Italian Grand Prix will start on Sunday, 2nd June at 11 am (local time). The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team have registered victories at the Italian venue on three occasions: with Luis Salom – in 2013 -, Miguel Oliveira – in 2015 – and Brad Binder – in 2016.

“I like the Mugello Circuit a lot. Last year I did a good job in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race there. This weekend we will try to take a step forward, using all the knowledge we gained in the two days of testing in Barcelona last week. We have to keep working and learning, because this is my first year and I still have room for improvement. If we can find that missing bit of feeling with the bike in Italy, we can be higher up.”
