Productive day of testing for Can Öncü in Barcelona

18/06/2019

Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider completes 83 laps on the Catalan track, working with a focus on the next round of the 2019 season.

After just a quick rest on Monday, Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 and Can Öncü returned to the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit on Tuesday to take part in a one-day official test. The young Turkish rider worked hard to apply the knowledge acquired during the first seven Grands Prix and prepare for the Moto3 World Championship double-header that precedes the summer break.

Over the course of eight hours of action on track, the 15-year-old rookie completed a total of 83 laps, riding in the 1:49.8s. The team tried different setups in order to find one that allows Can Öncü to feel comfortable on his bike. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rookie rode by himself for a large part of the day, working on his pace and riding style.

The next event for Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 will be the Dutch GP at Assen from June 28th to 30th.

“I am very happy with how the test went. Today we worked on my pace when riding alone, and on my lines. We have taken a big step forward in both aspects. We also dedicated part of the day to finding a good setup for the bike, with the next race at Assen in mind. We checked several things, and we are very happy with how they worked. The high temperatures were a great handicap, but that also helped us to adapt to riding in extreme heat.”
