Red Bull KTM Ajo rider finished 11th the fifth FIM CEV round, after fighting for the top positions in the first half of the race.

The MotorLand Aragon circuit hosted the fifth round and the seventh race for the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship today. The Red Bull KTM Ajo team and Deniz Öncü demonstrated their good form on Saturday, gaining a successful front row for Sunday’s grid. They wrapped up a solid weekend in today’s race, with the Turkish youngster again battling with the fastest riders and eventually coming home 11th in the only race of the day.

Despite the rain which fell at the circuit early in the morning, the track had dried up by the begin of the contest. Öncü made a good start, holding onto third position in the initial running. In the first five laps of the race, the Turk battled with a big leading group, with up to 10 riders fighting for the top positions. By the half way mark the Red Bull KTM Ajo youngster lost some ground, however Deniz kept up the chase and finally crossed the finish line in 11th spot.

Following the Aragon round Deniz Öncü sits 14th in the FIM CEV standings with 21 points. The next round of the championship takes place after the summer break, at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit on 29th September.

“The weekend went well in general. On Saturday we were competitive in qualifying, I felt very good on the bike and we got third position on the starting grid. Unfortunately today the feeling wasn’t the same and I struggled a lot during the race. However, I tried to give my best and finally we were 11th, adding up more points. I’m going to take advantage of the summer break to prepare for the next contest. My goal is to be at the front and I know we can do it. I have faith in the team.”
