Öncü eager to face the last round before the summer break in Germany

03/07/2019

The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider heads to the Sachsenring circuit for the ninth round of the 2019 season this coming weekend.

Just few days after racing in the Dutch GP, Can Öncü and the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team head straight to the Sachsenring circuit for their next challenge. The shortest track on the calendar hosts this week’s German Grand Prix, where the Turkish youngster seeks to build on his good feeling from the last few races, which have seen him demonstrate some solid progress.

Öncü’s performance saw him approaching steadily the point-scoring spots, after producing a great comeback to join the fight for competitive positions. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rookie now heads to a circuit he likes, having been on the podium four times in his two visits to the German venue, with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup: in the two 2017 races he finished first and third, whereas last year he registered a victory and a second place.

The 27-lap German Grand Prix race begins on Sunday, 7th July at 11:00 am local time. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team have great memories from visiting Sachsenring, thanks to victories there with Sandro Cortese – 2012 – and Jack Miller – 2014 -, in addition to Luis Salom’s second place – in 2013.

“Sachsenring is a track I really like. On previous visits, I was fast and competitive there. I look forward to going back to the German circuit and seeing what we are capable of. In Assen we took a big step forward; I’m learning a lot and little by little that is being seen in the results. We have to continue working in the same way and, if we keep pushing, I’m sure we can fight for the top positions.”
