Raul Fernandez joins Red Bull KTM Ajo for the 2020 season

07/11/2019

The team is pleased to announce the signing of the young Spanish prospect to ride in the Moto3 World Championship next year.

Red Bull KTM Ajo and Raul Fernandez will join forces next season in the Moto3 World Championship. The 19-year-old rider from Madrid is one of the most promising young prospects in Spanish racing, having won the FIM Junior Moto3 World Championship in 2018, and he was selected to ride alongside Japanese youngster Kaito Toba for the team in the lightweight class in 2020.

Fernandez honed his professional riding skills in development series such as the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the FIM CEV, achieving great results in both competitions. His performances earned him a debut in the World Championship at the age of 16 and, after several further appearances over the subsequent two years, 2019 saw him undertake his first full Grand Prix season. Red Bull KTM Ajo and Fernandez have previously worked together in Moto3, when Raul represented the team at the 2018 German GP as a substitute rider.

In the pairing of Raul Fernandez and Kaito Toba, who are both 19 years of age, the Red Bull KTM Ajo team will have one of the most promising line-ups on the 2020 Moto3 World Championship grid.

Aki Ajo – Team manager

“We are very happy to have Raul [Fernandez] in our team for next year. We’ve watched him and followed his progress in motorsport since he was in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Also, we have already worked with his family in the past, specifically with his brother, in the FIM CEV. Everyone who has seen Raul’s development knows that he is one of the most promising young talents at this time and he proved his ability by winning the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship in 2018. We are ready to fight together for the top positions in 2020.”

Raul Fernandez – Rider

“I am very happy to be part of the Red Bull KTM Ajo team for next season. When I was in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup I looked up to the team, because I think that getting a ride here is the dream for all the children who have come through that series. I want to thank all the team members, KTM, Red Bull and, above all, Aki Ajo. I think the team and I have the same goals for 2020: we want to fight to win. I’m looking forward to starting to work and show my potential, I will do my best and give my all to achieve strong results.”
