Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 riders resume their adaptation to the 2020 KTM machines, during two productive days of private testing.

With less than a month left before the 2020 season begins, the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 returned to action in Jerez this week, attending two days of private testing that ended on Tuesday. Raul Fernandez and Kaito Toba, who had already tried out their new bikes at the end of November in Valencia, continued to take steps forward in their adaptation; both were able to lower their lap times from the first day to the second.

During the test, the riders enjoyed favourable weather conditions. On Monday, Fernandez finished the day with a total of 79 laps under his belt, riding in times in the mid-1:47’s. The Spaniard focused his work on the rear of his bike, looking for the best setup possible. His teammate, Kaito Toba, completed 64 laps of the Andalusian track, riding in the high 1:46’s. The Japanese used several different setups for the front end, to verify the most favourable option to be competitive.

On the second day, the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 riders lowered their times. Fernandez and his crew remained focused on better understanding their new bike, putting in 61 laps for a personal fastest time of 1:46.935. Toba put in 42 laps and stopped the clock at 1:46.899, satisfied with improvements to his riding style and setup.

Raul Fernandez and Kaito Toba will return to Jerez next week, for the first official test of the preseason on 19th – 21st February.

25 RAUL FERNANDEZ

“I came into this test eager to figure out where we stand right now. Over these two days I felt much better than in November. However, we have to continue working, since we have a good pace with used tyres but, when we put on a new one, we struggle a little more. We focused our work especially on the rear end, as the aim of this test was to understand the bike and its setup. I’m looking forward to next week and the official test here, so that we can keep evolving.”

27 KAITO TOBA

“It was a very positive test. We assembled different setups and eventually found one that allowed me to improve my pace. We have to better some points but we will continue working next week in the test.

During these two days we tried out several things on the front of the bike. We have also worked on my riding style and on improving my position on the bike.”
