The wait is over for Red Bull KTM Ajo

04/03/2020

Jorge Martin and Tetsuta Nagashima will start the 2020 Moto2 World Championship this weekend in Qatar.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo riders are ready to get the season underway this weekend at the Qatar Grand Prix, following the conclusion of testing and some productive preparation for Jorge Martin and Tetsuta Nagashima over the winter. In the last preseason test, held last week at the Losail International Circuit, the duo proved to be in top form. Now they look to perform well at the same venue in the race weekend.

In his second season in the Moto2 class, Martin is ready to take a further step up in his results. Throughout preseason, the Spaniard has proven to be one of the strongest riders on the intermediate class grid, despite not being 100% fit. In addition, Martin has fond memories of Qatar – where he has taken a victory (2018) and a third place (2017) in Moto3.

Nagashima will be making his debut with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team this weekend at Losail. However, the Japanese rider has already adapted to the 2020 bike and his crew, thanks to the great work done during testing. This will be Tetsuta’s fifth time racing in Qatar, and he will try to take advantage of his previous knowledge at the season opener.

With the cancellation of the MotoGP class action due to travel restrictions, the first race of 2020 for Moto2 will take place on Sunday, March 8th at 6 pm local time, over 20 laps.

88 JORGE MARTIN

“I’m really looking forward to start the Qatar Grand Prix. It will be a strange weekend without MotoGP, as that puts the pressure on the Moto2 riders a bit more and even increases our desire to perform well.
During the tests we demonstrated that we are competitive. We’re ready and it’s good that the sessions are at night, because we were more competitive at that time of the evening. If we can improve our feeling with the front end, we can fight for victory.”

45 TETSUTA NAGASHIMA

“My goal for the first race of the year is to fight for the top positions. Qatar is not one of my favorite circuits; however, in the test last week my feeling there was very positive. This could be a good season for me, since I feel more comfortable on the bike every day. In addition, the team are working hard and we are getting along well. Now is the time to do our best and I am sure that great results will come.”
