Red Bull KTM Ajo and Remy Gardner to join forces in Moto2 in 2021

16/09/2020

The team are delighted to announce the signing of the promising Australian in the Moto2 World Championship next year.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo and Remy Gardner will join forces to fight for the Moto2 World Championship in 2021. The Australian is a veteran of almost 100 Grands Prix, despite his young age, having ridden for five years in the intermediate series. Gardner has regularly shown his pace throughout 2020, and is a promising recruitment for the team.

Remy Gardner began his career in FIM CEV promotional cups, achieving outstanding results along the way. At 22 years of age, he has great experience in the World Championship: he made his debut in Moto3 at the age of 16, before moving up to Moto2 in 2016. Gardner has two trophies and two pole positions to his name in the intermediate class, the most recent qualifying top spot coming at the San Marino GP.

The Australian is the latest acquisition by the KTM GP Academy; a system and structure implemented by the manufacturer to identify and develop top talent, through Moto3 and Moto2, to one of the four Red Bull KTM MotoGP seats. Recently we’ve seen two riders who formed part of Red Bull KTM Ajo – Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira – move up to the premier class and achieve big things. This shows the great work that Aki Ajo, Red Bull and KTM do in training young stars.

Aki Ajo – Team manager
“I’m very happy to have Remy Gardner in our project next year. He is a young talent, but at the same time he has extensive experience in the World Championship. This combination of abilities is perfect for out project of developing riders.
We are looking forward to working together next season. I know that Remy has something special compared to the rest of the competitors: he has great talent, a good feel for the bike and is a born fighter. I hope that, as a team, we can give him a boost during the season for the style that comes naturally to him. I am personally very excited to have Remy with us, and about what 2021 has in store.”

Pit Beirer – KTM Motorsports Director
“I’m really pleased that Remy Gardner is coming under our umbrella. We think he is a special rider and we have seen some strong and exciting skills in his race performances over the years. We think with Aki’s experience we can help him to make the next important step in his career.”

Remy Gardner – Rider
“I am very happy to be signing this contract for the team of my dreams. I am proud to be part of the Red Bull and KTM family, and of Aki’s structure. I want to thank all of them for giving me this opportunity for 2021. I also thank all those who have helped me to get here. I can’t wait to start working with them next year and I hope that together we can do some amazing things.”
