Gardner and Fernandez return to action at the Styrian Grand Prix, the tenth round of the 2021 Moto2 World Championship season, at the Red Bull Ring.

The long summer break is over and, after five weeks of well-deserved rest and hard training, Red Bull KTM Ajo are back to work this weekend in Austria. The Red Bull Ring will host two consecutive Moto2 rounds, starting with the Styrian Grand Prix. Gardner and Fernandez are in excellent form, topping the rider and team standings, and look to keep that run going at the home of both KTM and Red Bull.

Gardner was consistent and mature in the first half of the season, achieving three victories and five podiums. Now, the Australian comes to the Red Bull Ring, a circuit where he was on the podium last year at the Styrian GP, in third position. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider is the Moto2 World Championship leader going into Round 10, with 184 points.

Fernandez surprised everyone by establishing himself as one of the leading Moto2 riders in his rookie season, with three victories and three podiums to date. This weekend, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider aims to continue accumulating experience and results in the class. Last year, the Spaniard achieved pole position in Moto3 in Austria. Fernandez occupies second position in the overall standings, with 153 points.

The 25-lap Styrian GP Moto2 race takes place on Sunday, August 8th at 12:20 PM local time. Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 have achieved two victories at the Red Bull Ring, with Brad Binder in 2019 and with Jorge Martin in 2020, as well as two second positions thanks to Miguel Oliveira – 2018 – and Martin – 2020.

“The summer break has gone very well. The first few weeks I spent travelling and sightseeing. When I got back, I started to train to the maximum and I was also working in my workshop on my motorcycles and my cars. I also used the opportunity to spend time with my family.
The Red Bull Ring is a circuit that I really like. It has a lot of hard braking and, above all, the third and fourth sectors have a lot of fast corners. Racing at the home of KTM and Red Bull will be special, as you feel the support of the Austrian fans and it will be a source of motivation. My goal for the second half of the season is to repeat what we did in the first half, and continue working to score points and finish contests.”

“The summer break has been good for us, although it has been long. I had a week off and the rest of the time I have spent training. I’m happy with how I have come back, in terms of my fitness and mental preparation, for the second half of the campaign.
The Red Bull Ring is a track that I have struggled with a bit in the past, but I think this year we are doing well at every circuit, so we will work hard to keep it that way in Austria. After more than a month off, the most important thing in the first race is to regain your feeling. In addition, we are at the home of KTM and Red Bull, and we will try to give them a good result. I face the second part of the season with more experience than at the beginning of the year, now I feel ready to take on the veteran riders in the class. The objective will be to keep the title fight alive until the last round.”
