Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 end British GP with solid race performance

29/08/2021

Masia finishes in sixth position and Acosta rises up the order for 11th place at the 12th round of the 2021 season, in Silverstone.

After two years away, Silverstone hosted a Moto3 World Championship contest this Sunday, with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team attempting a race day fightback. Jaume Masia was competitive and was involved in a battle for the podium, eventually placing sixth at the British Grand Prix. Pedro Acosta climbed 11 places to conclude the 12th round of the 2021 season in 11th position.

Masia, who took off from the fourth row of the grid, progressively climbed up the order during the early stages, joining a large group competing for third place. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider was able to stay focused and calm despite some frantic overtakes around him. However, the pack broke up before the end and he would come home in sixth position.

Acosta managed to fight back after a tough qualifying on Saturday and, despite starting from the eighth row of the grid, managed to climb 11 places in just three laps. With the leaders having already broken away, the rookie remained in the group fighting for the Top 10. Pushing hard to fend off constant overtaking attempts, particularly on the final laps, he would cross the finish line 11th at his first race at Silverstone.

Acosta remains the series leader with 201 points, whilst Masia is 5th with 105. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 duo will enjoy a week off before competing at the Aragon Grand Prix from September 10-12th.

AKI AJO – TEAM MANAGER

“It wasn’t the easiest weekend of the year for us in Moto3. However, at the end of the race, we have to be happy because we survived quite well. Both riders finished the contest and, in addition, we have increased the lead at the top of the standings. It is normal that in a class as tough as this, and especially on such long and fast tracks as Silverstone, there are more difficulties. It was a round for learning and we have to be satisfied with the results obtained by both Pedro [Acosta] and Jaume [Masia].”

5 JAUME MASIA

“We salvaged something from the weekend. I want to thank the team for all the work they did. In the final part of the race, we suffered a bit with the rear tyre, but nevertheless, we finished in a positive sixth position, after a rather tough round for us. I am looking forward to the next Grand Prix and to racing at Aragon.”

37 PEDRO ACOSTA

“We could say that the race was ‘regular.’ The important thing is that we completed another weekend in which, in addition, we managed to get more points that help us to increase the lead over our most immediate pursuer in the championship. With this in mind, all-in-all, it was a positive round. It was a tough and long contest, with a very large group that meant overtaking was constant. Now it’s time to focus on the next Grand Prix, which will also be at home.”
