Productive first day for Moto2 Red Bull KTM Ajo riders at Jerez
18/02/2025Deniz Öncü and Collin Veijer begin final preseason test with consistent progress.
Red Bull KTM Ajo began their final test of the 2025 preseason on Tuesday at Jerez. On the first day of three at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, Deniz Öncü was seventh and Collin Veijer 27th.
With a total of 69 laps completed over the three sessions, Öncü ended Tuesday feeling good and carrying over his form from last week’s two day test in Portimao. The most experienced rider of the Red Bull KTM Ajo duo was seventh and sixth in FP1 and FP2, showing his speed and consistency. In the afternoon, amidst cold and windy track conditions, Öncü took things cautiously and placed 14th. His best time of the day was a 1:41.243, which was enough for him to finish seventh -less than 5 tenths off the best overall time.
Veijer had more work to do than his teammate to adapt to the conditions in Jerez, but he also showed positive progress. The Dutchman completed 60 laps, spread across the three sessions. Although he finished with the 27th best time overall, he was able to improve on his best lap in each of his outings on track. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie rider finished Tuesday with a best lap of 1:42.777, which he will try to further improve on during Wednesday and Thursday at Jerez.
On-track action for the Moto2 riders will resume on Wednesday from 11:20 AM local time.

#53 DENIZ ÖNCÜ
“It was a very positive day here at Jerez. Tomorrow we will continue working to improve more and more. We are trying different setups with the objective of building our confidence, so we have two days more of testing to achieve that. The team are working hard and I felt good during these three opening sessions, so we need to continue in this way to find the perfect setup for the next week in Thailand.”
#95 COLLIN VEIJER
“Today we struggled a little to find our feelings, after the crash we suffered at the end of the Portimao test. The track conditions throughout the day weren’t very helpful, but we were able to finish much better than we started -both in terms of our fastest lap and with the pace and feeling with the bike. Every time we go out on track we improve, so we have to take the positives away and keep working to regain confidence -and be able to take several more steps forward over the two days we have left here.”
