Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 arrive in Austin aiming to defend leads

26/03/2025

Rueda will try to achieve the third podium of the season, while Carpe will make his first appearance in the USA.

The Circuit of the Americas takes centre stage as it hosts the third round of the 2025 Moto3 World Championship. Jose Antonio Rueda and Alvaro Carpe head to the USA trying to maintain their position at the top of the standings, with Rueda the series leader and Red Bull KTM Ajo the frontrunners in the Teams ranking. However, Austin is practically a new track for both of them: Rueda was only able to compete in the 2023 race and Carpe has never travelled to Texas.

Rueda comes into the weekend with confidence and plenty of pace, having taken podium finishes in the opening two rounds. Whilst he won the season opener in Thailand, he challenged for the victory in Argentina a fortnight ago, missing out on the closing lap but taking third. Top of the standings, he has raced at Austin on just one previous occasion: In 2023, when he qualified 11th and finished the Grand Prix tenth. Last year, after qualifying second in Q2, he was taken to hospital and diagnosed with appendicitis, which required surgery and ruled him out of the race itself.

Carpe faces a third consecutive unfamiliar track at Round 3, but adapted fast at both Buriram and Termas de Río Hondo. The rookie has proven able to use Friday Practice to acclimatise and to set his bike up for the rest of the weekend. In Argentina, he crashed on the final lap after fighting for podium positions throughout the race, so he is motivated to be even stronger in the United States.

In conclusion, Rueda and Carpe fly to the United States with the objective of keeping the team in the front positions. Red Bull KTM Ajo have two wins at Austin in Moto3, through Jack Miller (2014) and Jaume Masia (2022), plus two third places with Luis Salom (2013) and Brad Binder (2016).

#99 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA

“We’re arriving in Austin, which is a track I really like. I hope to enjoy it to the fullest and, at the same time, shake off the disappointment we had last year. We have to work as we have been doing up to now, to maintain our results. It will be important to get a good feeling from Friday morning to be able to be at our best for the rest of the weekend. I’ve only been able to compete in one race in Austin, so it will be important to focus on our race pace.”

#83 ALVARO CARPE

“Austin is a track I’ve always wanted to visit since I was a kid. It’s a relatively new track, but interesting Grands Prix have always been held there, so I’m excited to go there, because I think I’m going to really enjoy it. On the other hand, I’m very motivated after how things ended up in Argentina, so I hope to have a good time and enjoy the experience to the fullest. I like the characteristics of the circuit and think it could suit my riding style well, so I’m looking forward to hitting the track on Friday.”
