Rueda wins with authority in Austin to increase Moto3 lead

30/03/2025

The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider takes his second win of the season and third consecutive podium. Alvaro Carpe places sixth after a very strong race.

There was a great Sunday for Jose Antonio Rueda and Red Bull KTM Ajo at the Grand Prix of the Americas, as the series leader scored his second win of 2025 with a runaway victory. Alvaro Carpe fought in the chasing pack for podium positions to ultimately take sixth. The great result of both riders allows Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 to remain at the top of the team standings.

There was a perfect start from Rueda from 4th on the grid, but especially from Carpe from 7th. The latter rider arrived second into the first corner, just ahead of his teammate. With Maximo Quiles leading the pack, the two Red Bull KTM Ajo riders helped stretch the field, and by the end of the second lap, Rueda had taken the lead.

With only seven riders in the leading group, Rueda began to push hard, gaining the first tenths of a second advantage over his rivals in the pack. When race leader David Muñoz crashed after just four laps, it caused a further gap between Rueda and the group. From then on, he established a two-second advantage over those in pursuit. He came home alone to win the Grand Prix of the Americas, celebrating his second victory of the season and shaking off the disappointment of last year -when he was unable to compete in Austin after being sidelined with appendicitis. It was Red Bull KTM Ajo’s third victory at COTA, following those of Jack Miller (2014) and Jaume Masia (2022).

Carpe drove a mature and intelligent race, staying out of trouble and battling with much more experienced riders. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie held his own in the fight for the podium for much of the race. In the final stretch, with Joel Kelso and Matteo Bertelle ahead desperately trying to catch Rueda, Carpe tussled with Angel Piqueras and Maximo Quiles, eventually earning sixth place and 10 points.

The third Grand Prix of the season comes to an end with another great weekend for Jose Antonio Rueda and Alvaro Carpe. After their fourth podium of the year, Red Bull KTM Ajo also lead the Team standings. Rueda is the leader of the Riders championship with 62 points, while Carpe is fifth with 30. The team will now prepare for the fourth Grand Prix of the season, which will take place in two weeks in Lusail, Qatar (April 11-13th).

NIKLAS AJO – Team Manager

“Once again we had a very successful weekend in Moto3. We didn’t have too much dry track time this weekend but both riders managed to qualify well in Qualifying. Jose Antonio today was at a very high level. He continued with the same work he has been doing all year so far and he achieved a great victory. Today he was one step ahead of everyone else and of course this is very important for his confidence. Alvaro once again had a very good race. I think Austin is the most difficult track to learn on the calendar, so it’s never an easy task to came here for a rookie and especially with these track conditions we had. In the end it was a great weekend and a result for him.”

#99 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA
“I pushed hard from the start. I didn’t expect the pace to be so fast, but I had doubts about whether I could maintain it for the entire race. I tried to take risks, but without going overboard, to avoid mistakes and avoid having to pay for it on the final laps. I’m really happy with this first win here, as last year we were also in contention, but my appendicitis prevented us from racing. I want to thank my personal trainer for the win, as he’s always helped me recover from injuries, especially just a year ago after the operation in Austin. I was confident I could escape like Alonso did last year, so I’m very happy with the result and looking forward to extending this momentum in Qatar.”

#83 ALVARO CARPE
“I’m happy with the race we had today in Austin. It was a fun and entertaining Sunday, and I had a great time fighting with the leading group for the podium positions. I was a little short on tyres in the final part of the race, so I had to play it safe to avoid repeating the mistake I made in Argentina. We’re gaining good points for the overall and rookie standings, and gaining knowledge from riders who are much more experienced than me. We’re already thinking about what’s coming up in two weeks, as Lusail will be the fourth consecutive circuit we’ve never been to before, so I’m looking forward to getting to Qatar.”
