Öncü wants to return to best form at British Grand Prix
21/05/2025Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 look to bounce back from a difficult French Grand Prix with a strong performance at Silverstone.
The British Grand Prix, the seventh round of the Moto2 World Championship season, takes place this coming weekend at Silverstone. Red Bull KTM Ajo are targetting a return to the positive results from Austin, Qatar, and Jerez, after Deniz Öncü and Collin Veijer both had a tough end to the recent French Grand Prix. However, after the recent injury of the Dutch rider, Öncü will be the only Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 rider travelling to the United Kingdom this week.
After a bittersweet Sunday in France, Öncü is looking to put in a strong performance at Silverstone. The Turkish rider had been a frontrunner throughout the weekend at Le Mans, even leading FP2 and setting a new circuit record, but on Sunday things did not go as planned. Silverstone looks to be a promising track for him, as he achieved a third place at the British track in Moto3, back in 2022, plus points for 8th in 2021 and 11th in 2023. However, this will be his first time at the British track on a Moto2 bike, having missed the race last year due to an injury to his left hand. Öncü is currently 10th in the overall standings, with 37 points.
All in all, an inspiring weekend is coming for Öncü and the entire Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team, who want to show what they are capable of after a difficult encounter in France. In addition, Silverstone has seen solid results for the team in the past, as they have been on the podium at the last five British Grands Prix. That includes wins for Remy Gardner and Augusto Fernandez in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and third places for Brad Binder (2019), Pedro Acosta (2023) and Celestino Vietti (2024). The first session for Moto2 will be at Silverstone from 10:50 a.m. local time on Friday, for Free Practice 1. The 17-lap British Grand Prix takes place on Sunday at 11:15 a.m.

“Another race weekend has come around! We’re off to Silverstone, a very nice track where I have only raced before as a Moto3 rider. It will be nice to ride there with the Moto2 bike, so our goal is the same as at the last races: Keep our pace up and fight to be as close as possible to the front. I’m very motivated for this BritishGP after a bittersweet end in France two weeks ago, so we’ll give it our all.”
