Third Pole Position of the year and all-time lap record for Rueda at MotorLand
07/06/2025The World Championship leader will start first in the #AragonGP, with teammate Carpe fourth.
Jose Antonio Rueda took his third Pole Position of 2025 at the Aragon GP this Saturday, repeating his feat from Silverstone a fortnight ago. It will be the fifth time in eight races that the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider has started from the front row, this time, with the all-time lap record included. Alvaro Carpe also took a step forward at MotorLand, working on his race pace in the morning and securing fourth place on the grid.
With temperatures similar to those from Friday morning, Rueda once again spent FP2 improving his feeling ahead of Sunday’s race. He worked alone to fine-tune his race pace for the 17-lap contest, but was always amongst the Top 5 on the timesheets. Without lowering yesterday’s time but also without the need for a competitive Time Attack, the Moto3 World Championship leader finished in 5th place, with a best time of 1:57.602 set on his fourth of 15 laps. Carpe opted for a similar strategy to his teammate, and put in the same number of laps as Rueda. The rookie clocked his best time on his sixth attempt, opting for a race simulation in the final part of the session. His 1:58.152 was the 14th fastest in the session. Also working on the details of the setup for his KTM, Carpe was satisfied with his showing.
In Q2, the two Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 riders implemented what has become their customary strategy, riding alone while simultaneously helping each other out.
Rueda got off to a strong start, but although he came very close to his best time at MotorLand, it only temporarily earned him fourth place. After returning to the pits, he had clear track ahead of him and imposed a fearsome pace, breaking the track record on his penultimate lap with a 1:56.361. It earned him Pole Position for the third time this season, and was the tenth session he has topped in 2025.
In his seven laps -the same number as his teammate- Carpe led the way for the first half of the session, although he aborted his second flying lap before heading into the pits. Maximo Quiles and Luca Lunetta overtook him with six minutes remaining, placing him third with his second Time Attack remaining. Carpe improved again to lay down a 1:56.763, almost a second faster than his best time from Friday. However, he was knocked off the front row by Quiles in the closing moments, putting him fourth on the grid.
After a great Saturday and the achievement of the third Pole Position of the year for the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team, Jose Antonio Rueda and Alvaro Carpe are already preparing for their second race of the year in home soil. The pair will be amongst the favourites in Sunday’s Moto3 race (17 laps), which takes place at 11am local time at MotorLand Aragon.

#99 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA
“Q2 was crazy, with so many people in the group. Luckily, we were able to push hard as always and put in a great lap to secure Pole Position, but above all, the important thing was to be on the front row. It’s a pleasure to be able to take pole at MotorLand, a circuit I really like and that brings back good memories, so I’m very happy. I really enjoy this track, so I’ll try to set a strong pace from the start, although it won’t be easy. I prefer not to expect anything from the race, because the tyres could be very important. It will be hot, the group will be large, and the race is long, so we’ll do our best to control everything within our powers.”#83 ALVARO CARPE
“It was a very positive Saturday. We’re happy with the result. It’s a shame we lost out on the front row right at the end, but the good thing is that we are starting on the clean side of the track, so hopefully it won’t be difficult to maintain our position going through the first corner. The race will be tricky and fun. It’s very windy, and tyre wear is quite severe here, so we’ll have to be careful in the final stretch of the race and fight for the podium with what we have left. Right now, we don’t know our race plan, because we don’t know how the tyres will perform, so we’ll have to be cautious and improvise on the fly.”
