Veijer and Muñoz aim to maintain strong momentum in Hungary

20/08/2025

The Dutchman will be partnered by the Spanish stand-in once again, as the Moto2 World Championship moves on to new circuit Balaton Park.

Collin Veijer and Daniel Muñoz complete a double-header of Moto2 World Championship rounds with the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, following a strong performance in Austria. Veijer, fresh from finishing eighth at the Red Bull Ring, will have to adjust to an unknown track for him, which he will see for the first time this Thursday in the Track Walk. The same situation applies to Daniel Muñoz, who will once again replace Deniz Öncü in Hungary.

Veijer arrives confident and highly motivated to take on the new Balaton Park circuit, where all riders, teams, and classes will make their official race debut this weekend on equal terms. Whilst he has adapted to tracks with a Moto2 machine this season, this time around he has no references from previous classes or series. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 rookie had his best grid position (9th) and result (8th) in a Moto2 race last weekend in Austria, and was closer than ever to the race winner and podium positions. Veijer is currently 19th in the overall standings with 21 points.

Muñoz will be back alongside Veijer in the absence of Öncü, who is still recovering from an operation on his right leg performed eight days ago. The young Spanish rider, who also had his best race result on a Moto2 bike at the Austrian GP with 14th place, is looking to make his mark on a track well suited to his riding style. He was consistent in Austria and made it into Q2, and a repeat of this would continue his steady showings in two appearances with the team so far this season (Aragon and Austria). He is looking to string together three consecutive races in the Top 15, and is 29th in the standings with three points.

In conclusion, it will be a no reference weekend, but also an important one, for Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2, which will try to take advantage of the equality that all teams face during their visit to Hungary’s Balaton Park. The pair will begin the task of trying to get into the points with the first session on Friday at 9:50 a.m. (local time), aiming to achieve the best possible setup for Sunday’s 23-lap race, which will begin at 12:15 p.m.

#95 COLLIN VEIJER

“We’re going to what is a new circuit for all of us, but we are confident that we can do well at Balaton Park. We’ve started the second half of the season feeling very positive, so the most important thing will be to maintain that feeling in Hungary, which will not be easy because we will have very little time to adapt. This will be the first completely new circuit for us this season, so the challenge is quite motivating for us. We are going to give it our all, and the team have been working very well on the setup of our bike. As always, we’ll try to do our best.”

#17 DANIEL MUÑOZ

“I’m very happy to have another opportunity to compete in a Moto2 round with this team. So far, we’ve worked very well together, and I hope to learn a lot more this weekend. My goals are very clear, so I hope to continue growing as a rider and be able to help the team in any way I can. I’m very motivated to ride at this circuit, which is also new for everyone. Although I don’t know for sure, I think its characteristics could be very good for us, so I’m looking forward to riding at Balaton Park to see for myself.”
