Muñoz and Veijer aim to extend good form in San Marino

10/09/2025

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli hosts the sixteenth round of the Moto2 season this weekend, where Red Bull KTM Ajo want to see his two riders in the Top 10 again.

Red Bull KTM Ajo riders Collin Veijer and Daniel Muñoz face a final European round of the Moto2 World Championship before the flyaways begin, when they head to San Marino this weekend. The pair, as they did in Barcelona, are targeting great results that would maintain a solid run of results in the intermediate class after Austria, Hungary and Catalonia.

Veijer arrives in Misano focused on continuing with his consistency. He has the chance of a fourth consecutive Top 10 result, which would be indicative of a clear improvement in his adaptation to the class. After coming home in eighth place in Austria, fifth in Hungary, and ninth in Catalonia, Veijer now sets his sights on Misano. Last weekend in Barcelona, he achieved the best Q2 position of his Moto2 career, and started on the front row of the grid for the first time, in third. Another new circuit for him in terms of experience with his current bike, Misano is a track that has suited the Dutchman well in other series: As a Junior GP rider, he competed in two events (2021 and 2022), achieving a best result of fourth. In the Moto3 World Championship, in 2023 he finished fifth, while in the two 2024 events he was fifth and third -both times just a few tenths of a second away from earning victory. Veijer is currently 19th in the Moto2 standings, with 39 points.

Muñoz has morale at a high after achieving his first Moto2 World Championship podium, putting in a sublime performance at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He also achieved his best Qualifying result at the last round, finishing sixth in Q2 and using penalties for two rivals to start from fourth on the grid. The Spaniard will stand in for Deniz Öncü with Red Bull KTM Ajo for at least one more round, and wants to put up a fight against the Italian riders who know the track better than him. Muñoz raced at Misano in Moto2 last year, and finished 20th after coming back from 27th on the grid. He also competed in the European Moto2 Junior GP event there in 2024, last year, where he placed seventh. After four Grands Prix contested with Red Bull KTM Ajo as a replacement this season -three of them in the points- he has 19 in total and is 20th in the overall standings.

All in all, Red Bull KTM Ajo faces an exciting and challenging weekend in the intermediate category on a demanding track. With 158 points, Red Bull KTM Ajo are eighth in the Team standings, approaching the Top 5. Misano brings back fond memories for the Finnish outfit, thanks to four wins and three podium finishes in the last ten seasons. Victories were achieved by Johann Zarco (2015), Raul Fernandez (2021), Pedro Acosta (2023), and Celestino Vietti (2024), while on the rostrum were Miguel Oliveira (2nd in 2018), Remy Gardner (2nd in 2021), and Augusto Fernandez (3rd in 2022).

For the last time until November, Moto2 has European action this weekend. Free Practice 1 starts at 9:50 a.m. (local time) on Friday, and the 22-lap Sunday race kicks off at 12:15 p.m.

#95 COLLIN VEIJER

“We aren’t expecting anything specific for this weekend. At the moment, we just want to start with a clean slate again. It’s a new track for me in Moto2, so overall we’ll just try to be at our best there and try to use our full potential again, just as we did during the last three rounds. It will be important to perform well there, in order to arrive at the flyaway rounds with more confidence. We will try our best and, of course, try to enjoy the weekend to the fullest.”

#83 DANIEL MUÑOZ

“We arrive at Misano really excited after achieving our first World Championship podium in Barcelona. We had a very competitive weekend at one of my home tracks, so we’ll try to continue on from that in San Marino. However, we’re aware that it won’t be easy, as not every weekend is the same. We’ll try to be competitive and fight for the best position we can get. We continue to take advantage of opportunities, so it’s time to learn, gain experience, and give our all, as always.”
