Muñoz fights back for twelfth place at San Marino GP
14/09/2025The Spanish rider recovers five positions to take four points at Misano. Collin Veijer drops to last place on lap 4, recovering to 21st place.
Daniel Muñoz was able to take points for the fourth time in five appearances with Red Bull KTM Ajo, as he finished 12 in the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano. He made a good start from 17th, gradually overtaking five rivals. Collin Veijer showed great pace in the second half of the race, but had to fight back from even further down the order to finish 21st.
A dry weekend at Misano concluded with temperatures as high as 30ºC on track for the Moto2 contest.
Muñoz made a good start, holding his grid position without any problems. After the initial stage, the Spanish rider was steady in the points-scoring positions, reaching 15th place within just two laps. Little by little, with a consistent pace and trying to conserve his tyres, Dani broke away from those around him, leading the fourth group of the race until the closing laps. He then set his sights on reaching the Top 10, but ran out of laps in which to do so, leaving him in 12th place. After his second-best result of the season, Muñoz now has 23 points to his name and remains in 20th place in the Moto2 World Championship.
Veijer also made a strong start, moving up two positions in the first three laps and making his way into the same group as Muñoz. However, a mistake at Turn 3 sent the Dutchman into the gravel on the fourth lap, and when he rejoined the race he was in 28th place. Having lost more than eight seconds in the incident, he went about climbing the order again through a steady pace, rising to 21st place by the time the chequered flag was waved. Just a tenth of a second behind the two riders who finished directly in front of him, Veijer was very competitive during the second half of the race, showing a strong pace similar to that of those in the Top 10. He remains 19th in the overall standings, with 39 points.
In conclusion, it was a bittersweet Sunday for Red Bull KTM Ajo in Moto2, with a great race from Daniel Muñoz, including a comeback to P12, on the one hand, and a good performance from Collin Veijer, which was undermined by a small mistake that proved very costly, on the other. On 162 points, Red Bull KTM Ajo are still in eighth place in the Team standings. The next stop for the Moto2 World Championship will take place in 15 days’ time in Japan, where Twin Ring Motegi will host the seventeenth round of the season on September 26-28th.

NIKLAS AJO – Team Manager
“After three good weekends, this turned out to be a little more difficult. On Friday, Collin had a big crash in Free Practice 1, and that hindered him all weekend because he lost a lot of track time. He had to catch up with the frontrunners and obviously Qualifying was challenging -and not the best for either of our two riders. They tried to set their lap times alone, and the grid position affected the race today. Dani showed great pace today and he also managed to overtake a lot of riders to recover well. He almost achieved the most he could today. Collin unfortunately made a mistake at the beginning, and that affected the rest of the race. He also managed to recover quite a lot of positions and set a good pace in the last part of the race. We will take away a lot of lessons and a lot of positives from this weekend, and we will try again in Japan.”
#95 COLLIN VEIJER
“The pace was there today, but we had a big mistake entering Turn 3 on the fourth lap and I ended up in the gravel. After that, I was in 28th position, so I needed to start the comeback again. The feeling was great, but it was impossible to recover that much time, so we could only make it to 21st. It’s a shame, because after the first three laps we were 18th and in the main group, but that’s racing. The most important thing is that the feeling was good and that we showed a very competitive pace during the second half of the race, so we’re keeping confident for the flyaway rounds that are just around the corner.”
#17 DANIEL MUÑOZ
“I’m satisfied with today’s race. The start wasn’t bad, and we held onto 17th place, which allowed us to stay in the middle of the field for the first few laps. Little by little, I started feeling better, and we were steady in the points. In the end, we were a little short on pace on the final laps, but we managed to hold on to our position, so I’m very happy to have been able to score several more points for the overall standings. Once again, I want to thank Red Bull KTM Ajo for all the confidence they’ve placed in me throughout this week. We’ve done a great job.”
