Rueda achieves at Misano his eighth win of the season with final corner overtake
14/09/2025The leader of the category dominated practically from start to finish and adds more advantage at the top of the overall standings. Carpe, with a good race, completed the Top 10.
Jose Antonio Rueda had an excellent Sunday showing at the San Marino Grand Prix, continuing to establish his title credentials with an eighth win of the season. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider led the way for much of the race, and made a series of clever passes in the final stretch to hold off his rivals -including an overtake on the final corner. Alvaro Carpe had a solid race, completing the Top 10 after fighting for seventh place for much of the contest.
The race got underway with temperatures of 26ºC on track -somewhere in between the morning and afternoon times from the practice and qualifying sessions over the weekend.
Rueda, who had qualified 4th on the grid, was stable in fourth place after the opening corners, sitting calmly behind the Top 3 as they tried to open an initial gap. The 14-rider main group broke free before the first lap was through, and Rueda moved up the order to second place behind Joel Kelso. A collision between Muñoz and Perrone split the group and reduced the frontrunners to seven, with Kelso and Rueda creating some space of their own at the head of the field. Rueda then took the lead before the halfway point of the race, and tried to break away again. The race ultimately came down to the final lap: Maximo Quiles attacked Rueda, but the Red Bull KTM Ajo man managed to bide his time, returning the pass on the final corner with a masterful move. Win number eight of the season also marked his eleventh podium in just sixteen races, and extended his tally at the top of the standings to 295 points, 78 ahead of his closest rival, Angel Piqueras.
Carpe moved up three places off the line, having taken off from 10th. He kept up the pace, staying within the leading group for the first two laps. However, as those ahead of him gradually made some breathing space, Carpe remained ninth and was absorbed by the chasing pack. He ended up battling for eighth place with up to five other riders, all the way through to the finish line. Finally, after setting a strong race pace during the second half of the race, Carpe came home in tenth place, just 1 second off seventh. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie rider remains in fifth place overall, with 155 points.
All in all, it was an ideal Sunday for Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3, which once again proved to be the highest-scoring team in the category and reaches the 450 points. Now 128 points clear, courtesy of eight wins and 14 podiums, they move on to a new challenge in the coming weeks: Next up are the flyaway rounds, starting with the Japanese Grand Prix at Twin Ring Motegi from September 26-28th.

NIKLAS AJO – Team Manager
“We had another good weekend from the beginning. Jose Antonio was very fast since the first session on Friday, and worked all weekend alone to prepare for the race. His pace was amazing and his Qualifying position didn’t really show his real speed from the weekend. Today, in the race, he led almost all the way and managed to win with a great manoeuvre on the last corner. He deserved the victory after all his work during these three days. It was another great race to extend the lead in the championship. Alvaro managed to improve a lot. Friday was very tricky for him, but he made some steps forward on Saturday and also today in the race. At the start he struggled a little bit, but at the end of the race he was running almost the same times as those at the front, so he had a great race. Slowly, he’s recovering his level to be at the front, where he deserves to be.”#99 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA
“I’m very, very happy with the race we had today. Last week didn’t go perfectly, but today we were able to achieve the win, so I’m very satisfied with the team’s work throughout the weekend, which meant we were able to arrive strong for today’s race. I wanted to try to attack earlier, but it wasn’t possible, so we waited until the end and it worked out well. As I said, the most important thing is to try to do everything that is down to me perfectly, and that’s what we did. Luckily, today it worked out well for us, so I’m very happy for the whole team. We’re taking things race by race, so we’ll enjoy the moment and then think about Japan.”

“We can say that we took a step forward over the weekend. We needed some time, especially on Friday afternoon in practice, to find a bit more pace, but the race went well. At the start, I tried to stay at the front, but the pace was very high and we had to settle for being in the chasing group. As the laps went by, I felt better, and we ended up setting a competitive pace, in addition to constantly fighting amongst ourselves. We’re satisfied and confident heading to Asia for the first time.”
