Veijer and Muñoz arrive in Barcelona in top form
03/09/2025Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 look to build on strong recent performances at the Catalan GP.
Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Moto2 regular rider Collin Veijer, plus stand-in Daniel Muñoz, head to Barcelona this weekend for the latest round of the Moto2 World Championship. The Dutch rider, after achieving his two best results as a intermediate category rider, is in great form, and will once again be accompanied by his replacement teammate with Deniz Öncü still out through injury.
Veijer has reason to be optimistic ahead of the trip to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. After consecutive ninth and fifth place finishes, and placing just a second off the podium last time out, he is looking to continue his consistency in Barcelona. The challenge will not be an easy one: In four Junior GP races, he only managed to finish seventh as a best result. As a Grand Prix rider, he was unable to compete in the 2023 Catalan GP race in his rookie season, suffering a crash in Q2 that led to a broken foot. However, last year, he was 19 thousandths of a second off Pole Position and finished fourth in the race. Veijer starts the weekend in Montmeló in 19th place overall, with 32 points to his name.
For the fourth time this season, Muñoz will replace the injured Deniz Öncü, who continues to recover from a fracture to his right leg. The Spaniard, in his sixth World Championship appearance of the season and his fourth with the team, will look to continue his development at a circuit he knows very well, after numerous appearances in other series. He won every race he contested at the circuit between 2023 and 2024 in the Junior GP: In 2023 in the Stock class, and last year with a double win in the Moto2 European Championship. Muñoz narrowly missed out on entry into Q2 and raceday points at Balaton Park, although he had started the weekend very well. He is 29th overall with 3 points.
Facing an always special round marked in red on the calendar, Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 approaches the CatalanGP with enthusiasm and fond memories of previous years: three wins and several podium finishes in the last ten seasons at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The victories were achieved by Johann Zarco (2015 and 2016) and Remy Gardner (2021), while the further podium finishes came through Miguel Oliveira (third in 2017 and second in 2018), Raul Fernandez (second in 2021), and Augusto Fernandez and Albert Arenas, who finished third in the 2022 and 2023 races, respectively.
The action gets underway for the Moto2 class on Friday, with Free Practice 1 at 9:50 a.m. (local time). The 21-lap race on Sunday will begin at 12:15 p.m.

“For this weekend, we’re very excited and hungry. We’re coming off two great rounds, so we’ll try to have another good one overall. It won’t be easy in Barcelona, because this track is one of the most difficult in terms of tyres, so it will be very important to work around this during the three days. It’s going to be a fun weekend for sure, and we will try to learn a lot to show the same level as in Austria and Hungary. I’m feeling really good, so we’ll see if we can put all the things together in the correct way from the beginning.”

“I’m very happy with the opportunity the team have given me to compete in another round of the Moto2 World Championship. We’re very motivated for the Catalan GP, as it’s a track we know and where we can be competitive. We’ve trained hard during the break since Hungary, so I’m excited to be able to complete my third consecutive race with the team. We’ll give 100% to show our potential and be competitive throughout the weekend.”
