Jose Antonio Rueda is crowned 2025 Moto3 World Champion
04/10/2025The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider claims his first title after winning at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
Jose Antonio Rueda is the 2025 Moto3™ World Champion, achieving the title at the Indonesian Grand Prix after winning the race in Mandalika. Holding a 109-point advantage over his closest rival and with just four rounds remaining of the season, he secured his first world title in his third season with Red Bull KTM Ajo. The Spanish rider has earned 9 wins, 13 podiums, 5 Pole Positions, 4 fastest race laps, and 340 points after 18 Grand Prix riding his KTM RC4 in 2025. Previously, he won titles in the Red Bull Rookies Cup and FIM JuniorGP in 2022.
In an excellent 2025 season from the start, Rueda only relinquished the top spot in Moto3 between the Qatar and Spanish Grands Prix, and since then has been the series leader. He started the campaign with wins in Thailand and Argentina, plus a third place in the USA. Consistent throughout the season, he has only been outside the points when he suffered an issue while fighting for victory on the final lap at the Qatar GP -the only lap this season that he has failed to complete. Rueda regained the series top spot at the Spanish Grand Prix, as he became the first Andalusian rider ever to win at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto. From then on, he racked up three Pole Positions, four wins, a third, a fourth, and an eighth place before the summer break.
Since the season resumed, the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider has not been out of the Top 5, including one win and two second places. The visit to Indonesia was his first chance to win the title having to earn just seven points more than Angel Piqueras. Whilst he achieve the victory, his rival could only manage to place 7th, giving Rueda the crown.
The KTM GP Academy rider has become the fourth Moto3™ World Championship winner for Red Bull KTM Ajo, following Sandro Cortese (2012), Brad Binder (2016) and Pedro Acosta (2023).
With one of the best seasons in the history of the category, together with Alvaro Carpe, the Spaniard could also help Red Bull KTM Ajo to the Teams title this year. They head the standings with 497 points, 143 clear, and could clinch the title in two weeks’ time at the Australian Grand Prix.
In his three years in Moto3, Rueda has taken 10 wins, 18 podiums, six Pole Positions, and six fastest race laps in just 58 Grands Prix, and has more than 600 points to his name. In fact, with four races still to go, the season could be even better in terms of numbers, with the possibility of winning the team championship title.
Rueda, tied with Marc Marquez and Raul Fernandez, is now the fifth rider in the history of Red Bull KTM Ajo in the World Championship with most victories (10), and next year, he will move up from the class to Moto2 in 2026, partnering Collin Veijer.
Following his reign in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2022 and his more than satisfactory three seasons as a KTM rider in Moto3, the team’s goal will be to continue developing his career in the intermediate class, following a trajectory that has seen talents such as Pedro Acosta eventually progress to the premier class in the recent years.
“What a year! It has been amazing to follow the progress of Jose Antonio throughout this year and of course during the last two years. It has been a long project for us since 2023 and the progress as a rider, but especially as a person, this season has been incredible to see in him. I am so happy that we’ve been able to be on this trip together and, of course, continue in the future in Moto2, where I’m sure we will have even more success together. I want to say massive thanks as well to all our team for their continuous effort and professionalism through this 2025 season. Also we can’t thank enough all our partners in this journey, especially Pierer Mobility Management and Red Bull. It has been a pleasure to develop another great young talent together with them as a part of KTM GP Academy.”
#99 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA
“I’m very happy to have achieved the dream I’ve had since I was a kid. I took the race calmly, especially at the start, and we were able to improve lap by lap. I knew I had the pace to be at the front, so when things cleared up I started pushing. It’s a shame about the red flag, as the celebration had to be a little bit improvised, but it’s a pleasure to be able to win the title. I can’t put into words how I feel, so I can only thank my parents, my family, Aki, Niklas, the entire Red Bull KTM Ajo team, and everyone who has helped me at any point in my career to make this possible. Now it’s time to enjoy it and finish the season on a high note.”
