Rueda wins and Carpe takes third to seal Moto3 team title
19/10/2025An excellent race by both Red Bull KTM Ajo riders at Phillip Island, who added two more podium finishes to continue making history in the category.
A historic Sunday for Red Bull KTM Ajo at Phillip Island saw Jose Antonio Rueda take his tenth win of the season, with Alvaro Carpe joining him on the podium. The results led to the confirmation of the Team title crown, reflecting a highly successful 2025 campaign for Aki and Niklas Ajo’s structure, which becomes the third best team ever in the category.
Conditions for the Moto3 race at Phillip Island were windy, with track temperatures of 19ºC and 38% humidity.
Rueda made a great start from second place on the grid, and he trailed poleman Joel Kelso closely in an early push. Within just two laps, the pair were able to open up a gap of almost a second over the chasing pack. The newly crowned Moto3 World Championship stayed close to the home rider, then went on the attack shortly before the midway mark, with several overtaking attempts thwarted. On the closing laps, he put in a devastating pace that finally forced him past the Australian, and Rueda achieved his tenth victory of the season, making him only the sixth rider in history to reach double-digits in the lower cylinder class (behind Fausto Gresini, Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, Joan Mir and David Alonso). With three races remaining, he now has 14 podium finishes and 365 points.
Carpe also got off the line well, holding onto sixth place amidst plenty of activity within the pack. He tried not to be too affected by his rivals in the group, after the strong initial push from Kelso and Rueda quickly dropped them from the fight for victory. Showing composure, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider set the fastest lap of the race on Lap 3, moving into third, but the strong winds prevented him from breaking away and riding on his own. More than eight seconds off the lead before the halfway point of the race, and with tyre wear increasingly prevalent, Carpe rode intelligently, then decided to pull away and establish an advantage of several tenths of a second heading into the final lap. He secured third place by 0.058 thousandths of a second. The Spaniard’s fourth podium of the season takes him to 173 points overall, and keeps him in the fight for the Top 4 and the Rookie of the Year honour.
In short, it was a golden and bronze finish for Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 on Sunday in Australia, which saw Rueda win, Carpe take the podium and the entire team clinch its second Moto3 team world title, bringing it dangerously close to the best results in the history of the category. With 538 points and 18 podium finishes, the team have three more Grands Prix remaining to write their names into the history books.
The first of the three remaining stops will take place next week in Sepang, where the MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 convoys will conclude their overseas season with the Malaysian Grand Prix (October 24-26th) before returning to Europe for the last two rounds of 2025, which is now drawing to a close.

NIKLAS AJO – Team Manager
“I’m very happy about today. First of all, because of the results for both riders. Jose Antonio continues showing why he was crowned World Champion two weeks ago. What a performance it was by him, dominating once again. I’m also really satisfied with Alvaro. He showed a lot of progress in Indonesia, but unfortunately the result was not what he deserved. This weekend, he showed that he’s back. I’m extremely happy to see him on the podium once again, so let’s hope to see him delivering these results regularly in the next few races. We’ve won the Team title, so I’m very proud of all the team for their work during the season.”
#99 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA
“Everything went perfectly today. We had prepared very well for this Sunday and we achieved another great victory that once again demonstrates how hard we’ve been working throughout the year -regardless of the track or the conditions. This is one of the most beautiful circuits on the calendar, and achieving this victory here is spectacular. Given how the race unfolded, we were able to enjoy it immensely, especially on the final laps, so I’m very happy to be back at the top. I was also able to share the podium with my teammate and friend Alvaro, in addition to winning the Team title. Without a doubt, I’ll never forget what happened today.”
#83 ALVARO CARPE
“It hasn’t been easy to get back here. It’s been a tough time these past few weeks, but we’ve worked hard to achieve the podium again, which is really special. It took me a while to gain confidence on the first few laps because of the wind, but I ended up feeling great. It’s a shame I couldn’t stay with Rueda and Kelso, because I felt very strong, but at least we were able to get a few metres clear of the group to secure the podium. The weekend has been very positive overall, so we’ll keep going like this and enjoy what we achieved today. It’s a special Sunday for the entire Red Bull KTM Ajo team, so I’m very happy for everyone.”
