Sixth place for Carpe at the Malaysian Grand Prix
26/10/2025Teammate Jose Antonio Rueda is absent from the race after a collision on the Sighting Lap at Sepang with Noah Dettwiler.
Sunday at the Malaysian Grand Prix featured an unfortunate incident on the Sighting Lap, which ended with Jose Antonio Rueda and Noah Detwiler taken to hospital, a red flag and a shortened Moto3 race. Left as the sole Red Bull KTM Ajo representative, Alvaro Carpe achieved a hard-fought sixth place finish.
After the unfortunate incident between the Spaniard and the Swiss on the Sighting Lap, the Moto3 race was reduced to just 10 laps, which were run in very high track temperatures of up to 53°C.
Carpe made a strong start, moving into third at the start of the first lap as part of the leading group. With a strong initial push from Taiyo Furusato, the pack was stretched out, and after the fourth lap, hostilities within the group intensified, leaving Carpe challenging for seventh place during the final stretch of the race. At the front, the fight for the podium resulted in a crash and several other incidents, allowing the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider to enter the fight for fourth place right to the finish line. He missed out on the position by just a few tenths of a second, and had to settle for sixth. The 10 points take him to 183 in the overall standings, level with Joel Kelso in joint-fifth place.
Rueda was unable to compete in the Malaysian Grand Prix due to the serious collision involving the Spanish rider and Dettwiler during the Sighting Lap. Following the impact at the exit of Turn 3, both remained conscious, although they were rushed by helicopter to the nearest hospital for further tests to determine the extent of their injuries. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider has a fracture in his hand, and was assessed as having no serious injuries to his head or torso, albeit with a severe concussion from the impact. He remains under observation, awaiting further tests on his hand and arm.
Keeping an eye on Jose Antonio Rueda’s medical evolution, Red Bull KTM Ajo wants to send strength to Noah Dettwiler in his recovery process, as well as his family and all the CIP Green Power team. The next round for the Moto3 World Championship is the Portuguese Grand Prix, held from November 7th-9th, where the team will arrive with 548 points.

NIKLAS AJO – Team Manager
“I think today the race results -or the weekend in general- is not too relevant, as obviously it was an horrific accident on the Sighting Lap involving our rider Jose Antonio and Noah Dettwiler. Obviously, we’re extremely glad that Jose Antonio is fine and only has a small fracture in his hand. At the same time, all our thoughts are with Noah Dettwiler. The weekend had been positive for both riders up until then. For Alvaro, it was very difficult to race today after what happened to his teammate, but he managed very well”.
#83 ALVARO CARPE
“First of all, I want to wish Jose Antonio and Noah Dettwiler a speedy recovery. I saw the incident in front of me, and it was a hard impact. The race wasn’t easy at all, and the heat didn’t help either. The first part was difficult, as I went off the track after another rider’s maneuver ran me wide, but I then managed to find my rhythm and fight back from 12th place. In the end, I had to settle for sixth, although we fought for fourth until the end. We’re strong, and we want to continue showing that in the upcoming races.”
