Bad weather forces cancellation of Moto2 Australian Grand Prix

25/10/2026

Veijer and Rueda are unable to ride at Phillip Island, after Race Direction deemed conditions on the Australian circuit too dangerous due to severe weather.

The Moto2 Australian Grand Prix’s Sunday action was cancelled due to poor weather on race day. Faced with cold temperatures, rain, wind, and poor visibility, Race Direction took the decision to call off the event at Phillip Island.

Set to start from 13th and 20th on the grid, Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 riders Collin Veijer and Jose Antonio Rueda had hoped to replicate their performance from Indonesia last time out, in which they secured Top 15 finishes. Unfortunately, this was not possible. Veijer remains 12th in the overall standings with 80.5 points, while Rueda stays in 17th with 43 points, maintaining his lead in the Rookie of the Year ranking.

With safety as the top priority, the Moto2 World Championship leaves Australia without a final race at Phillip Island before the venue changes to Adelaide next season. The 2026 campaign now moves on to Malaysia, for a visit to the Sepang International Circuit from October 30th – November 1st.
