Ajo Motorsport rider earns a place on the front row that will allow him to fight to clinch Moto2 title.

It has not been an easy weekend so far for Johann Zarco, but the Frenchman has been getting faster with every session and tomorrow has a first opportunity to clinch the Moto2 World Championship. In the qualifying session today, he took the decisive step forward required to be among the fastest riders on track, achieving third place on the grid tomorrow.

FP3 was not a wasted session, as Zarco used the time to try things he did not have time for on Friday. His work was focused on qualifying in the afternoon and the important race on Sunday. Although he was not at the top of the timesheets, he eventually completed the 40-minute session in ninth place, with a time of 1:53.797 similar to his Friday afternoon best.

The current World Championship leader used his first two stints in qualifying to further improve his times on hard tyres, and it was not until the end when, on new soft tyres, he climbed to third place. He set almost identical times on three occasions, with the best of them a 1:52.659 that allowed him to take his fourth consecutive first row -his tenth of the season.

The Moto2 Aragon GP begins tomorrow at 12:20pm local time.

“I’m happy to have got a spot on the front row. This morning I understood which direction to take to ride the bike fast. It was difficult, because this year the times were much faster than last season and the references have all changed. I tried to get used to things, but it seems that both Tito [Rabat] and Rins are a step ahead with their pace. In any case, I’m enjoying the weekend and with leading the standings. If I can fight for victory tomorrow it will be very nice, but a podium would not be a bad result either.”
