Johann Zarco was mathematically proclaimed Moto2 World Champion at Motegi on Friday, search with four races remaining of the season. He did so as a result of title rival, Tito Rabat, being unable to recover from injury in time to compete at the Japanese GP. This fact, however, did not mar the great season the Ajo Motorsport rider has had. Since the third race of the year in Argentina, not only did he not vacate the lead of the overall standings, he also increased his lead for 12 consecutive races.
With his 2015 triumph, Zarco has become the first French rider to win a Moto2 title, set a new record of twelve consecutive podium finishes –six of them race wins–, claimed the greatest number of wins in the World Championship for a French rider –8 (1 in 125cc and 7 in Moto2)–, as well as becoming the first French rider to win three consecutive races. It is not surprising, then, that with three races remaining the Ajo Motorsport rider has his eye on further improving his statistics in the remainder of the campaign.
