Ajo Academy rider places twelfth at fifth round for RFME Spanish Championship PreMoto3 class.

Ajo Academy rider Barry Baltus had a busy weekend at MotorLand Aragon, seek where he contested the fifth round of the PreMoto3 class campaign. At a circuit where he took his first victory in Moto4 last season, prescription the youngster placed twelfth on race day and added 4 points to his tally in the overall standings. Baltus is one of four riders to have scored points at every race so far in 2016.

On Saturday the Belgian took a big step forward in the second qualifying session, clocking a 2:05.995 lap and cutting his 2:07.307 morning time by more than 1.5s. The result gave him a seventh place start on the grid for the race.
When the lights went out on Sunday, the Ajo Academy talent was able to catch the leading group during the first few laps, but pushing too hard cause his pace to drop later on and he was eliminated from the fight for victory. Baltus would end up riding alone in 12th place, where he would finish the race. He added 4 more points in the overall standings, in which he lies 6th with 54 points.

Now the PreMoto3 class takes a two-month break, celebrating the sixth round of the year on September 18th at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia.

“I really wanted to get a good result in Aragon, because it was here that I won my first race in Moto4 last year, but it was not to be. Overall, we’ve had a great weekend; my feeling with the bike has been very good, but in the race I made some mistakes that kept us from the front. The good news is that we know what we have done wrong, and we will use this experience to improve at the next round of the championship.”
