The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 riders face the eighth round of the season, the German Grand Prix, amidst a run of three consecutive 1-2 finishes.

After a well-deserved rest, the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team return to action for back-to-back races heading into the summer break – beginning this weekend with the German GP. Sachsenring will host the eighth round of the 2021 season, in which both Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez will seek to keep up a series of results that gave them 1-2 finishes at each of the last three contests. The pair top both the Rider and Teams standings in the intermediate class.

At the Catalan GP, a fortnight ago, Gardner claimed his second consecutive victory as the Australian rider took a win from the pole position. The Red Bull KTM Ajo talent roved to be one step ahead of his rivals, breaking the circuit record on Saturday. His competitive and consistent pace enabled him to extend his lead in the Moto2 World Championship to 139 points.

Fernandez is also in great form, having finished second in Barcelona for his third consecutive podium – his fifth of the season. The Spaniard proved that he is one of the most consistent riders in the class, in which he continues to adapt at a remarkable pace. Thanks to his good results, all of them being Top 5 finishes, Fernandez arrives in Germany with 128 points, placing him second in the overall standings.

The 28-lap Moto2 German Grand Prix takes place at 12:20 PM local time on Sunday. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team have been on the podium at Sachsenring on the last three visits, thanks to a second place for Miguel Oliveira in 2017 and a victory and second place for Brad Binder in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

“I spent the week off wakeboarding, doing some trial training, and other days I went out for a run. It was a few days of relaxing a little.
Now it’s time to work and face the last back-to-back races before the summer break. It will be important to get through these two contests with plenty of points, as we were doing at the last few rounds. The layout of Sachsenring is similar to that of a karting circuit: The first sector is very small, although I quite like the final part. There are a lot of left hand corners, so let’s see how it goes there. The goal is once again to enter the Top 5, without making any mistakes, and achieve the best possible result.”

25 RAUL FERNANDEZ

“During the week off I was training and preparing for the upcoming Grands Prix. I also used the opportunity to take my mind off things, since after two consecutive races it is necessary to disconnect a little and train other disciplines. These will be the last two rounds before the summer break; I am really looking forward to it and I would like to finish the first part of the year in the same way as the previous rounds: Giving our 100%, enjoying myself and trying to fight for the podium.
I’m looking forward to riding at Sachsenring as it is one of my favourite circuits. I have great memories from there, since whenever I have been there I’ve felt good and comfortable. Overall, it is a track that I really like. The objective is to fight for a place at the front once again.”
