Gardner and Fernandez head to MotorLand for the thirteenth round of the 2021. The Spaniard comes into the event following a small operation last Sunday.

This weekend, the Moto2 World Championship moves on to MotorLand for the thirteenth round of the 2021 season: the Aragon Grand Prix. Top of the Rider and Team standings thanks to their recent results, the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team arrive in Alcañiz, Spain, after having achieved two consecutive victories, with one apiece for Raul Fernandez and Remy Gardner.

Last week, Raul Fernandez suffered a small fractured fifth right metacarpal whilst cycling and he was operated on by Dr. Xavier Mir and his team at the Unidad de la Extremidad Superior Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona on Sunday. The Spaniard has been doing recovery work since then and will be at the Aragon Grand Prix. Last year he claimed two poles in Alcañiz and his first podium in the World Championship at the Spanish track. He currently occupies second in the overall standings, with 187 points.

At the last Grand Prix, at Silverstone, Remy Gardner had an exceptional performance, winning a hard and exciting contest for his fourth victory of the campaign. The triumph provides an extra boost for the series leader, who has racked up 231 points so far in a successful 2021 season.

The 21-lap Moto2 Aragon Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, September 12th at 12:20 PM local time. The last Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 victories there were taken by Brad Binder, with two consecutive wins in 2018 and 2019. Jorge Martin also took a third place in 2020.

“Things worked out perfectly at the last race. We got the victory and that means we arrive here with extra motivation and happiness. However, this weekend we have to work to improve in qualifying, as we are still lacking something when it comes to our position on the grid. MotorLand Aragon is not one of my favourite tracks, but it seems like a great circuit to me. Our goal for this round is once again to get as many points as possible and, if we can, be in the Top 5 and finish the contest.”

“I feel pretty good after the operation. We have already started our rehabilitation work and my hand is doing better than we expected. I am positive, although we have to improve little by little. I want to thank Dr. Xavier Mir’s team from the Unidad de la Extremidad Superior Hospital Universitari Dexeus, since they treated me quickly, speeding up the process, and they were very professional. After what happened, I won’t set any goals for this Grand Prix. I want to take things day by day, seeing how we feel, because my right hand is used for the gas and the brake. Aragon is a track that I really like, since I got my first World Championship podium there last year. We will do our best to be able to race on Sunday, if my hand allows it.”
