Argentina Grand Prix next challenge for Fernandez and Acosta
30/03/2022Red Bull KTM Ajo head to Termas de Rio Hondo ready to compete in the third round of the 2022 season.
The Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit reopens its doors to the Motorcycle World Championship this weekend, after two seasons away. The Argentina Grand Prix takes Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 to South America to contest the third round of the 2022 campaign. Augusto Fernandez and Pedro Acosta are enthusiastic and motivated for the new challenge.
Fernandez finished the Indonesian Grand Prix in fifth position, in a tough race full of uncertainty due to changing weather conditions. The Spaniard once again proved to be one of the strongest and most competitive riders on the grid, qualifying on the front row. This time, Fernandez will face added difficulty, in the form of a track at which he has only had a few laps on it. He currently occupies the 5th position in the overall standings, with 24 points.
Acosta adapted well to Mandalika last time out, and in the race he claimed ninth place. Throughout the weekend, the current Moto3 World Champion took progressive steps forward in his acclimatisation to the intermediate class. Now Acosta travels to the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit, where he will have to work hard to learn the ins and outs of the Argentinian track. He lies in 10th place in the Moto2 World Championship, with 11 points.
The Moto2 race Argentina Grand Prix will start at 1:20 PM local time, over 23 laps.

“At the Indonesian Grand Prix, we took some good points and, although we expected to fight to be further up the order, taking into account the situation we salvaged something from it and met the goal of scoring points at all the races. It is with this same mentality that we now arrive in Argentina. In 2019 I was only able to ride there on Friday Free Practice, as at the end of the day I crashed and suffered a pretty serious injury. However, I remember that, until that moment, the circuit was going well for me. I have only had a few laps on it, so I will have to make an effort to remember it and work hard to adapt almost as if it were a new track. The goal is once again to get as many points as possible. We will do everything to try to be in the fight for the victory on Sunday and to complete this round with a good performance.”
#51 PEDRO ACOSTA
“At the last Grand Prix, we showed that our pace is good. Now we come to Argentina, a new circuit for me. It has been very helpful for me to watch races and practices from previous seasons, since they have allowed me to get to know the track a little. We will have to work hard to adapt to the circuit and learn it well. Also, the series hasn’t been running there for a couple of years so, in a way, we will all start from scratch. Bearing all this in mind, the objective this weekend will be to move forward with firm steps. As always, we will try to enjoy ourselves every time we go out.”
