The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 duo will contest the Italian Grand Prix this weekend at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.

The Moto2 World Championship season heads to Mugello this weekend, for the Italian Grand Prix. After having completed the first quarter of the 2022 season, the Red Bull KTM Ajo team face the eighth round of the season motivated and with the desire to continue making progress. Riders Augusto Fernandez and Pedro Acosta will begin a double-header that will take them from Italy to Barcelona in the space of just two weeks.

At the French Grand Prix, Fernandez capped off a great weekend by taking his first win of the season. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 talent was once again one of the riders with the fastest pace the whole weekend, at the sharp end in all practice sessions and winning the race unchallenged. He goes to Italy with the desire to carry this over for a good result at Mugello. Fernandez occupies the fifth position in the overall standings, with 69 points.

Acosta took a big step forward at the French Grand Prix, where he claimed his first pole position in the intermediate class. The reigning Moto3 World Champion made a fantastic start to the race, taking the lead, but, unfortunately, a crash halfway through forced him to retire. Currently, Acosta is 17th in the Moto2 World Championship with 20 points.

The 21-lap Moto2 Italian Grand Prix takes place on Sunday at 12:20 PM local time. Red Bull KTM Ajo have previous Moto2 wins at Mugello through Miguel Oliveira in 2018 and Remy Gardner in 2021. The team also achieved a third position last season with Raul Fernandez.

“The victory at Le Mans was the reward for the work we have done so far this season, in which I have felt strong from the start – especially in pre-season. We have been competitive at all the races so far. At Le Mans we were finally able to reflect how fast we had been in practice in the race, and we reaped the reward for all of our effort. Now it’s time to focus on the Italian GP, at a circuit that I really like – although, in terms of results, we haven’t had much luck there in the past. The goal, after having won in France, is to be back at the front. It will be important to start the weekend well, work as we have been doing so far and keep scoring as many points as possible.”

“At recent Grands Prix we have progressed thanks to the work that we have done calmly and with a lot of concentration, focusing on riding, letting things flow and having fun. Now we come to Mugello, a fast circuit where we hope to continue progressing and learning.
