Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 return to work with visit to Assen
26/06/2024Celestino Vietti and Marcel Schrötter face two consecutive weeks of racing after the June break.
Red Bull KTM Ajo return to action after three weeks off for a Moto2 double header. Celestino Vietti comes to Assen wanting to continue progressing after a great showing in Italy, and will be partnered by replacement rider Marcel Schrötter -in for the injured Deniz Öncü.
Vietti is in his best form of the season, having matched his best result of 2024 at the Italian Grand Prix. Vietti is increasingly comfortable with his bike, making constant improvement with his Red Bull KTM Ajo machine. After finishing seventh at the last race, he moves on to Assen and a track where he has fought for the podium on previous occasions. With 38 points, Vietti is tenth in the overall standings.
Deniz Öncü will miss the next two rounds following an operation on his left hand two weeks ago. As he sits out the Dutch TT and German GP, Marcel Schrötter will replace him on the Red Bull KTM Ajo team at these two events. Schrötter, who already has experience in the class, will try to obtain the best possible results during his stand-in spell, starting this weekend.
Red Bull KTM Ajo are seventh in the Team standings with 44 points. They have two wins at Assen, through Raul Fernandez (2021) and Augusto Fernandez (2022). They also hold second places through Remy Gardner (2022) and Brad Binder (2019), as well as third place with Pedro Acosta last season. The 22-lap Moto2 race will take place on Sunday at 12:15 PM local time.

“Finally we are getting back on the bike. I can’t wait, as we have trained a lot during these weeks off to arrive in top form. Assen is a track that I like a lot and we hope that there will be good weather, but you never know there. I really enjoy riding there and it is one of the best tracks on the calendar. I’m confident and I want to continue with our work, remain consistent and fight for a good result.”
#32 MARCEL SCHRÖTTER
“First of all, I want to say thanks to KTM, Aki Ajo and all the sponsors for thinking of me to replace Deniz for these two races. I want to wish him a speedy recovery. At the same time, I want to thank my current team for letting me ride here. Riding at Assen and especially Sachsenring is a big thing for me, and I can’t wait to be back in Moto2. I think it will be very nice to get more time on the bike. I was testing a few days ago with the Moto2 bike, it’s a pleasure to work with this team and I’ll try to help them with my experience as much as possible. I want to do a good job, do my best and fight for a good result as well.”
