Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 shifts focus to Malaysian Grand Prix
30/10/2024Celestino Vietti and Deniz Öncü move on to the Sepang International Circuit.
Just two rounds remain of the 2024 Moto2 World Championship season, and the Sepang International Circuit welcomes the intermediate class riders this weekend. After Deniz Öncü finished in the Top10 in Thailand, the Turkish rider is hoping to take another step forward and fight at the front again. Celestino Vietti is expected to return to action after his injury.
Vietti was unable to compete in the Thai Grand Prix after suffering a heavy crash and injuring his left shoulder. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider is working on recovering and hopes to pass the medical to clear him to come back. Last year he suffered misfortune and was unable to finish the Malaysian Grand Prix, and this time around his goal will be to get back on the pace after missing two races. With 140 points he is ninth in the overall standings.
Öncü finished in the Top10 after a demanding race in Buriram. The Turkish rider continues to show great progress and is clear about what the next steps are for him to continue improving in his first year in the intermediate class. He still has a chance to be crowned Rookie of the Year, and is 21st in the overall standings with 40 points.
Red Bull KTM Ajo occupies eighth position in the Teams standings with 140 points. In 2023, Pedro Acosta was second in Sepang, where he also became World Champion. There have also been wins and second places there for Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira with the team. The 17-lap Moto2 Malaysian Grand Prix will take place at 1:15 pm local time on Sunday.

#13 CELESTINO VIETTI
“I am happy to be going to Malaysia, and I hope to be able to get back on the bike this weekend, although first we have to pass the medical examination. I feel pretty good, so we will try everything possible, even though we know that it will be a difficult weekend. The most important thing is to recover our feeling, going step by step to get back to being in the best condition.”
#53 DENIZ ÖNCÜ
“We are heading to Malaysia now. My goal for the weekend is to be fast from the start and be able to get a better result in qualifying, so we can start the race in the top positions. If we do that, we can be up there in the race, fighting for the top.”
