Öncü optimistic ahead of Aragon Grand Prix where he took his first Moto2 podium
04/06/2025The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider will try to return to form in MotorLand, accompanied by Spanish replacement rider, Dani Muñoz.
MotorLand Aragon hosts the eighth round of the Moto2 World Championship this weekend. Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Deniz Öncü will be attempting to boost his results after two tough Grands Prix in France and the United Kingdom. In addition, MotorLand has seen him on the podium in both Moto3 and Moto2 categories. On the other side of the box, the young Spanish rider, Dani Muñoz, will be replacing Collin Veijer this weekend.
After an encouraging start and a positive feeling at Silverstone, Öncü struggled on race day to finish 19th. Following that result, as well as a previous setback at Le Mans, he now looks for a lift at the Aragon Grand Prix.
The Turkish rider has completed all five races in which he has participated at MotorLand, achieving two podium finishes. The first was in 2021, when he finished second in the Moto3 race, and the second was last year, when his third place marked his first podium in Moto2. Öncü was very competitive throughout the weekend, achieving his best result to date in a Moto2 Qualifying Session with fourth place. This season, he currently lies eleventh in the overall standings with 37 points.
Accompanying him this weekend will be young Spanish rider Dani Muñoz, replacing the injured Collin Veijer. The Dutch rider required surgery on his right arm a fortnight ago, and is not fit to compete in the contest as he continues his recovery process. Muñoz has 11 previous races to his name in the Moto2 World Championship, as well as many more in the FIM JuniorGP Moto2 European Championship -where he achieved three victories last year.
So, a special weekend with many incentives for the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team, which will not only try to get a good result with Öncü, but will also try to add a profitable Grand Prix together with Muñoz. MotorLand Aragon is one of the tracks with the best results for Red Bull KTM Ajo in Moto2: Since 2017, they have been on the podium in every visit to the Spanish track, with wins for Brad Binder (2018 and 2019), Raul Fernandez (2021), and Pedro Acosta (2022), a second place for Remy Gardner (2021) and third place finishes for Miguel Oliveira (2017), Jorge Martin (2020), Augusto Fernandez (2023), and Öncü (2024).
The first runout at MotorLand for the Moto2 riders will take place at 9:50 a.m. (local time) on Friday, with Free Practice 1. The 19-lap intermediate class race will take place on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.

“Aragon is coming up and we are very excited about this round. The goal is always the same: We want to fight for the best possible position during the entire weekend. I’m focused on Qualifying, because it’s very important to achieve a good position on the grid. That’s why we will work with an eye on this. We need to start the race as close as possible to the front to score the maximum amount of points possible. We’re ready to face MotorLand, which is a track I really like and where I have a lot of great memories from last year’s Grand Prix.”

“First of all, I want to thank everyone at Red Bull KTM Ajo for the opportunity they have given to me. I’m really looking forward to race another Grand Prix in the World Championship, especially with a team like this. We’ll try to learn and progress over the three days, as well as enjoying the MotorLand experience as much as possible. The goal is to help the team and be as competitive as possible on a track that’s familiar to me.”
