Rueda joins Öncü for first Moto2 ride in Barcelona Test

11/06/2025

The current Moto3 World Championship leader rides the Kalex for the first time in a one-day test as a recognition of his great season start.

Jose Antonio Rueda and Deniz Öncü rode at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this Wednesday, in a private test consisting of riders and teams from various championships. The current leader of the Moto3 World Championship, Rueda was given a first experience on Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Moto2 machine as a reward for his strong start to 2025.

With Collin Veijer still absent -but closer to making his return-, Rueda was handed the chance to enjoy a memorable day of testing. Furthermore, his first test with the Moto2 bike took place on the same track where he achieved his first podium finish as a World Championship rider in 2023. The Spaniard completed a total of 92 laps throughout the day, with a very positive feeling.

Deniz Öncü also made the most of the single-day test, putting in a total of 88 laps between the morning and afternoon. The Turkish rider, coming off his first Moto2 victory at the #AragonGP, was very competitive and continued to make improvements, and will head into the first double-header of the 2025 season with confidence.

With this week of testing completed, Red Bull KTM Ajo will next be in action at the Italian Grand Prix, which will take place from June 20th-22nd at Mugello.

#53 DENIZ ÖNCÜ

“It was a very long day for us. We worked a lot and we tried a lot of parts, both during the morning and in the afternoon, so it was a very busy test for all of the team. We tried to understand different feelings and reactions from the bike, and of course we collected a lot of data. I’m sure it will be very useful for the rest of the season. We’ve one week remaining before Mugello, so we will analyse what things could be important to change for the Italian Grand Prix.”

#99 JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA

“Today I enjoyed myself a lot. I only can say thanks to the team for the opportunity and to all the people who made this possible. The adaptation is difficult and I have room for improvement, but it was a very good day overall. The objective was to do as many laps as possible and also to enjoy myself without pressure, and for sure we did that. We will see if I can ride this bike more times in the future.”
