Veijer and Muñoz get back on track at team’s home race
13/08/2025An injury to Deniz Öncü means Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 will field the Austrian Grand Prix with the Spanish rider, who has already raced in Aragon with the team.
Collin Veijer and Daniel Muñoz return to action in Austria this weekend after almost a month of inactivity. The two Red Bull KTM Ajo riders, with Deniz Öncü out after suffering a leg injury last Monday, visit the home circuit for both the team and KTM ready to give 100% in the first round of the second half of the season.
Veijer has almost fully recovered from his arm injury suffered during the first half of the campaign. After working tirelessly during the summer break, the Dutch rider will compete at the Austrian track for the first time as a Moto2 rider. However, he is also extensively familiar with the layout, having competed there on six occasions: Four as a Red Bull Rookies Cup rider and two in the Moto3 World Championship. In the former, he managed to finish all eight races, several of them close to the podium, while in Moto3, he placed fourth in 2023 and fifth in 2024, both just tenths of a second off the rostrum. In 2023 he took Pole Position, while last year he secured a spot on the front row. The rookie will start the second half of the 2025 season with 11 points and in 20th place overall.
Muñoz will enjoy his second weekend of the season alongside Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team, at a track he is already familiar with. He has raced at the Red Bull Ring in four Red Bull Rookies Cup double-header events, achieving a win and a third place as his best results. Having also done well at the recent AragonGP in Moto3, where he advanced to Q2 and also scored his first World Championship point with a 15th place finish, he will look to build on this at the weekend. The Spaniard is also having a great season in other series, comfortably leading the Supersport class in the ESBK and fresh off a podium finish at the last round of the Moto2 European Championship. Dani is 29th in the Moto2 World Championship overall standings, with one point to his name.
With the motivation of dedicating two good results to Deniz this weekend, Red Bull KTM Ajo is ready for the Austrian Grand Prix, where they have a good history. Since 2016, the team have achieved five victories there: Johann Zarco (2016), Brad Binder (2019), Jorge Martin (2020), Raul Fernandez (2021), and Celestino Vietti (2024). In addition, they have racked up three more second places: Miguel Oliveira (2018), Jorge Martin (Styrian GP, 2020), and Pedro Acosta (2023).
Both riders will take to the track at the Red Bull Ring from Friday at 9:50 a.m. (local time) with Free Practice 1. Sunday’s 23-lap Austrian GP will take place from 12:15 p.m.
#95 COLLIN VEIJER
“I’m very excited to be back riding again, and even more so at a place like the Red Bull Ring. It’s a very nice track and I’m happy to be back together with all the team after a good summer break. Of course, we will miss Deniz, so I want to wish him a speedy recovery. We have worked a lot during these weeks off, so we want to demonstrate that during this weekend in front of the home crowd. It’s been a long month without racing, but we’re ready to come back. Let’s see what we can show during the second half of the season.”
#17 DANIEL MUÑOZ
“First of all, I want to wish Deniz Öncü a speedy recovery and thank the entire team for the opportunity and the confidence. This will be my second weekend with them, and it’s also at a track I really like and in which I have achieved good results in the past, so we’ll try to give it our all once again. We’ll try to enjoy it as much as possible and do our best so we can take a good result from Sunday’s race.”
