One-two finish for Red Bull KTM Ajo with Uriarte maiden Moto3 win in Italy
31/05/2026A Sunday to remember at Mugello, with a double for Uriarte and Carpe in a amazing race that was decided on the final lap.
Red Bull KTM Ajo enjoyed a perfect Sunday at the Italian Grand Prix, securing their first one-two finish of the season thanks to Brian Uriarte’s maiden victory and Alvaro Carpe’s second place. The race was decided on the final lap, and the pair earned their team their best result since last year’s Thailand Grand Prix, when Jose Antonio Rueda and Carpe also placed first and second.
With temperatures reaching 43°C on the asphalt and humidity at 53%, the Moto3 riders had promising conditions for the 17-lap race at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.
Uriarte was bumped up to the front row after the pole sitter’s pre-race withdrawal, taking off from third on the grid. He remained inside the Top 5 in the early stages, avoiding problems on a chaotic first lap. After the first three laps, he moved up the field, taking the lead on several occasions. Past the midway point, there were still more than 20 riders in the leading group, and this remained the case until a decisive final lap. Uriarte moved into second position, aggressively attacking the leader, Adrian Fernandez, at the Arrabbiata chicane. He made the move stick, opening up a gap to secure his first Grand Prix victory, on just his 11th attempt. With the 25 points earned in Italy, Uriarte leaps into fourth place in the overall standings with 67 points, and is the series’ top rookie.
Carpe also had a good start from 11th place, braking aggressively at the first corner to move up four places on the first lap. Six laps in, he reached the front, trading positions with his teammate and trying to break away. However, with almost the entire field bunched together, he had to make another fightback: Rising from 12th to fifth, he then provided a repeat of his performance from the Catalan Grand Prix, with an incredible final lap that allowed him to finish second behind his teammate. His second consecutive podium takes him to three for the season -and eight as a Moto3 rider. The Spaniard is now second in the overall standings with 93 points, closing the gap significantly to leader Maximo Quiles.
All in all, it was a perfect Sunday for the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello after scoring 45 points thanks to their one-two finish. They now sit second in the Teams standings with 160 points, significantly closing the gap to the leaders. The next round of the Moto3 World Championship will be the Hungarian Grand Prix at Balaton Park on June 5-7th.

NIKLAS AJO – Team Manager
“The race today was not bad but obviously we were hoping for a little bit better result after a good weekend overall. Anyway, after two difficult Sundays, we are back in the points with both of our riders, which is something very positive for the team, so we just have to keep on working to improve our performance next weekend in Hungary”.
#83 ALVARO CARPE
“I’m very happy to have achieved this very important podium finish today at Mugello. It was an absolutely crazy race, with lots of riders in the pack and overtaking happening everywhere. I had to fight back on the final laps, but we managed to finish in the best possible way, just like we did in Barcelona. We enjoyed it a lot, but we also learned a lot, so the overall assessment is very positive. The celebration in Parc Fermé was incredible. The team deserved a result like this, and today both Brian and I were able to achieve it. Of course, we want more, and I’m sure this will give us an extra boost for the future.”
#51 BRIAN URIARTE
“Coming first is incredible. I still can’t believe it. Especially as it’s happened at the Italian Grand Prix, which I think is one of the toughest on the calendar for a Moto3 rider. It’s taken blood, sweat, and tears to get here, but we’ve done it. I only have words of gratitude for my team, family, and everyone around me. I want to dedicate this victory to Hugo, Pau, Borja, and Dídac, who I’m sure are very much in our thoughts -wherever they are. Now it’s time to enjoy this with my loved ones and keep going like this, because we’re definitely on the right track and need to keep improving.”
