Darryn Binder looks for points Stateside

18/04/2018

Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 rider looks to open his account at Austin, after DNFs in the previous two GPs.

The start of the season has been full of misfortune for Darryn Binder, as two incidents with other riders have prevented him from completing fightbacks when in points-scoring positions. The South African heads to the United States this week, with this unfinished business from Qatar and Argentina spurring him on.

Binder took a Top 10 finish last year at COTA, and in order to do similar this time around he is targeting an improvement from FP1 onwards. Of particular importance is earning a good spot on the starting grid, and in 2017 he took off from the fourth row.

The 17-lap third Moto3 race of the season will take place from 11:00am local time –6:00pm CET. In the five editions of the Red Bull GP of The Americas held to date, the Red Bull KTM Ajo team have one victory –Jack Miller in 2014– and two further podiums.

“We come into Round 3 of the year this weekend, and to be honest so far we have not been lucky, with two DNFs in the first two races. This has to change on this sole visit to the USA for the year. I like the track and last year I enjoyed a good weekend, ending up in the Top 10. I hope to improve on that this Sunday and get a good number of points –which will allow us to forget about this beginning to the year and change the dynamic.”
