Niki Tuuli heads to Austria leading FIM Enel MotoE World Cup standings

07/08/2019

The Ajo MotoE Team rider is ready for the second round of the championship after making history with his victory at Sachsenring.

One month on from writing their names into motorcycle racing’s history books by winning the first ever FIM Enel MotoE World Cup race, the Ajo MotoE Team and Niki Tuuli are ready for their next challenge. The Finnish rider and his crew now head to the beautiful Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, where the second round of the season takes place this weekend.

The Ajo MotoE Team’s adventure in the new championship could not have started more positively. Last time out, at the opening round, Niki Tuuli took the first E-Pole in history on the Saturday, beating his closest challenger by near to 0.8s. It was an exceptional performance throughout the weekend from the 23-year-old rider, which culminated on Sunday with victory in the first FIM Enel MotoE World Cup contest. Next up the Finn visits a circuit he is already familiar with, having raced at the Red Bull Ring last season as a Moto2 World Championship rider.

The second ever MotoE round gets at 10 am local time on Sunday 11th August and will be contested over a total of 6 laps.

“After we did so well as a team in the first race, the objective at the second round is to be in the top 3 in all the sessions. We need to keep working in the same way. We’ve got a good set-up but we will need to make a few changes because there are some heavy breaking points at the Red Bull Ring. It’s a tricky circuit and at the same time it’s fun. We are going to try and make as few mistakes as possible throughout the weekend. I’m heading into this round feeling positive and I’m going to give it my best shot.”
