Misfortune for Deniz Öncü in the last round of the 2019 FIM CEV

The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider crashed out of both races in the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

The 2019 FIM CEV came to an end today at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, with the last two races of the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship. Deniz Öncü and the Red Bull KTM Ajo team had a difficult day, with the Turkish youngster riding in the Top 10 in both contests before twice crashing out in the final stages.

In the first race, Deniz Öncü made a good start, riding in third position in the early laps. He gradually dropped back, but managed to stay in the front group throughout. However, a mistake at Turn 1 with six laps to go brought the contest to an early conclusion for the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, who crashed out when battling for a Top 10 position from 13th place.

Öncü had a more complicated start in the second race, but he was still able to stay within the Top 10 in the opening laps. The young Turkish talent had been leading the chasing group and, although he lost ground during the course of the contest, in the final phase he had made it back up to ninth place. Unfortunately, bad luck struck again for the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, as he crashed at Turn 8 on the last lap.

Deniz Öncü therefore finishes his second season in the FIM Moto3 Junior World Championship in 12th place in the overall standings, with a total of 46 points.

“In the first race I took off well, I was up in third place in the beginning, but then as the laps went by I started to drop back a bit. With six laps to go, I made a mistake which caused me to lose the front at the end of the straight and I crashed.

The start of the second race wasn’t as solid as the first, but I was still in the front group. Like in the first contest, I also began losing positions and then with one lap to go I just couldn’t prevent the crash.

It wasn’t the end of the season we expected. Anyway, it was great to ride for a second season in the FIM CEV with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team and I want to thank everyone who made it possible.”
