Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 complete another productive day in Qatar

20/03/2021

Pedro Acosta and Jaume Masia continue with good feeling on the second day of Official Test at the Losail International Circuit.

Having made a good start on Friday, the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 duo continued their work on the second day of the Official Test in Qatar. Saturday saw an intense wind at Losail, which reduced the track time for the riders. This did not, however, prevent Pedro Acosta from placing fourth on the combined timesheets, in just his second day at the circuit. Jaume Masia was eighth overall on Saturday.

In the morning, the two Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 pair set the pace, with Masia being the fastest rider, followed by Acosta in second place. The former stopped the clock in 2:06.986 on his 10th lap out of a total of 12. His teammate was only 2 tenths behind, after setting a 2:07.246 in a practice in which he racked up 11 laps.

At midday, the team decided to sit out the second session due to the strong wind and build-up of sand on the track, but they returned for the third practice. In it, Acosta set his personal best so far: 2:05.980, earning him fourth overall. One of the hardest-working riders in the afternoon, with 20 laps completed, his teammate contributed 19. Masia finished eighth on Saturday with a time of 2:06.174.

Jaume Masia and Pedro Acosta still have one last day of testing tomorrow at Qatar before closing the 2021 pre-season for the Moto3 World Championship.

#5 Jaume Masia
“This second day of testing was very positive for us. Despite the strong wind, we were able to do a good job and we found a base setup that worked well. At midday, we couldn’t ride as the conditions were extreme, and we preferred not to take the risk. In the afternoon, we continued to test various things out, but as the track temperature changed, we weren’t able to lower our times. We focused on riding alone, and that also shows. Overall, we are happy and eager to continue progressing tomorrow.”

#37 Pedro Acosta
“This was a good day. We made quite a few changes to the bike and we completed an intense test plan. In addition, in today’s sessions we rode with different tyre compounds. We are quite clear about everything for next week, ahead of the first race of the season. We are one step closer to the riders at the front, so tomorrow we will take advantage of the last day of the test to try to consolidate these findings.”
