12/04/2021

Hikari Okubo completes the first of three days of Official Test action at the end of the FIM MotoE World Cup’s pre-season.

The Avant Ajo MotoE and Hikari Okubo returned to the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit this Monday, for the final Official Test of the 2021 pre-season for the FIM MotoE World Cup. Running through until Wednesday, the practice follows on from a previous outing at the Spanish track for the Japanese rider in March. On Monday he continued his adaptation to his electric bike and carried out an intense programme with his team. Okubo was seventh overall in the three sessions held today.

The Japanese made the most of the 30-minutes morning practice to get back his good feeling with the Avant Ajo MotoE machine. Okubo completed eight laps in the session, using several different setups for his bike. On his final attempt, he set a time of 1:50.295, which earned him 11th place.

In the afternoon, the Avant Ajo MotoE rider took a step forward, lowering his time from the morning with a 1:49.384. Tenth fastest, Hikari Okubo put in a further eight laps.

In the last session of the day, a personal best time on a MotoE bike at the track, set on the fourth of his eight laps, saw Okubo place sixth in the practice. His 1:48.692 was also the seventh quickest of the day as a whole.

Two more days of Official Test activity will be held at the track before the FIM MotoE World Cup pre-season comes to an end.

“This last three-day test in Jerez is very important for us in terms of finishing preparing for the start of the 2021 FIM MotoE World Cup season. After this first day, the feeling is positive. We have focused our work on finding a good setup for the bike, and on continuing to adapt to the riding style that this machine requires. The results was great and, most importantly, we still have two more days in which to continue progressing. We will do our best to take some more big steps forward between now and Wednesday.”
