Tough race for Okubo at Round 3 of FIM MotoE World Cup

06/06/2021

The Avant Ajo MotoE rider finishes in ninth position at the Catalan Grand Prix held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Hikari Okubo and Avant Ajo MotoE completed another FIM MotoE World Cup weekend together and gained valuable experience at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Japanese rider finished in ninth position on his first visit to the track with an electric motorcycle and claimed points at the end of a tough weekend.

The race was reduced from 7 to 6 laps, due to an issue with another rider on the grid that delayed the start. The Avant Ajo MotoE rider would climb from 11th to 6th on the first corner. However, on Lap 2, Okubo lost several positions and was left at the back of the group, finally finishing the third contest of the 2021 season in ninth place.

Okubo occupies 11th position in the FIM MotoE World Cup standings with 16 points. The Avant Ajo MotoE rider will be back at the Dutch GP, from June 25-27th.

“At the beginning I had an issue, as I had no power on the opening laps. This made it very tough to overtake the rest of the riders. I think I could have run a similar pace to the group at the front, but today we didn’t have a chance to show that. We have to keep working to understand what happened and solve it for the coming races.”
